Since joining the campus staff in 2016, Mrs. Laura Pasqua has become a familiar and essential presence at Aliso Niguel High School. Although many students may only encounter her in passing, while walking to class or entering the parking lot, few truly understand the extent of her contributions. As a full-time campus proctor since 2020, Mrs. Pasqua plays a vital role in maintaining not only the security of the school, but also the structure and daily rhythm that help Aliso Niguel run smoothly.
Described by staff and students as “the eyes and ears of Aliso,” Mrs. Pasqua’s responsibilities go far beyond simple supervision. Her daily tasks include monitoring hallways, locking classroom and campus doors, directing traffic in the morning, ensuring students are in the right locations, and stepping in wherever help is needed. In many ways, she serves as a bridge between students, staff, and administration, someone who can respond quickly and calmly to problems before they escalate.
“One of the first things we do is make sure the kids are really comfortable,” Mrs. Pasqua said. “So whenever I meet a student, I always make sure to tell them there’s always somebody at the flagpole. If they ever need help with anything, they’re more than welcome to ask us.”
On any given morning, she can be found at the front of the school, directing cars, setting up traffic cones, and placing signage to guide students and staff through drop-off safely. Once the school day begins, she moves throughout the campus, circulating through buildings, checking for safety concerns, assisting other proctors, and offering a friendly face to students who need directions or support. During lunch and passing periods, she helps maintain a calm and orderly environment, even with over 3,000 students moving across campus.
Beyond the physical demands of the job, Mrs. Pasqua has an approachable demeanor and an ability to de-escalate situations. She emphasizes that ensuring the safety and security of students remains a top priority for all campus proctors.
“We’re here for the kids, here for the teachers, and here for the staff,” she said. “Usually when anybody asks anything of us, if we can do it, we’ll do it for them.”
In addition to her regular duties, Mrs. Pasqua supports after-school activities, emergency drills, and special events. Whether it’s helping coordinate supervision at a pep rally or assisting during lockdown drills, she works behind the scenes to keep the school prepared and safe.
Her work often goes unnoticed by many students, but those who interact with her regularly know how much she contributes to the school community. She doesn’t just maintain order; she builds trust. Her consistency, reliability, and kindness have made her not just a staff member, but someone students and teachers alike rely on.
Now approaching a decade on campus, Mrs. Pasqua is more than a familiar face; she is a cornerstone of the school. Her commitment to student well-being, her presence during stressful moments, and her dedication to service have left a lasting impact on Aliso Niguel.
As students arrive on campus each day, it can be easy to overlook the individuals working behind the scenes to maintain a safe and orderly environment. However, those who take a moment to acknowledge Mrs. Pasqua, whether at the front gate, in the hallways, or by the flagpole, are recognizing a professional whose dedication and service have become integral to the Aliso Niguel community.
