Mr. Majors has made a large and meaningful impact on Aliso Niguel High School. As well as teaching Therapeutic Management, he also coaches girls’ basketball. He has found his work to be extremely rewarding and fulfilling.
Having lived on both the East and West coasts during his upbringing and education, Majors finally settled down in California and is now starting his 2nd year at ANHS. He received a graduate degree at UCI and an undergraduate degree at Sonoma State, majoring in Criminal Justice, which he had found interesting for a long time. However, he was soon drawn in by the prospect of changing lives.
He first found interest in his current work during an internship in Criminal Justice. After the internship, he saw that many of the children in the justice system could be helped, and he wanted to make a difference in the lives of those similar to them. He did not want children and people who were born with certain disadvantages to end up being wrongfully prosecuted. Majors says, “I wanted to give opportunities to those who may not have had them before.”
Majors is making a difference in the lives of not only those who may require special education and help. In his classroom, Majors shows compassion and understanding to not only his students but also anyone who chooses to come through his door.
Along with therapeutic management, Majors also coaches Girls’ Basketball. He found his passion for basketball at a young age, playing since he was in 2nd grade. Later, he played for Trabuco Hills, where he attended high school. He also played basketball at Concordia in Irvine until he tore his shoulder and could no longer play the sport. Because of this, he got into coaching and taught at San Juan Hills and now at Aliso, among others.
Linoy Brener (10), having experienced Major’s coaching, says, “His teaching style is really helpful; he definitely pushes you to be your best at the sport.” His students all share the same opinion that he motivates you and doesn’t let you give up, without being overly harsh like some coaches in their pasts could be. Coach Majors wants students to work as hard as they can to be successful in the sport, because of the enthusiasm he has for both the sport but also helping people improve.
Even though it is only Majors’ second year at Aliso, he has already made a huge impression on our school and his diverse set of students and athletes. He is beloved by the basketball team, the rest of the staff, and students at the school. He shows us why it is so important to have caring and passionate teachers and coaches at our school. Teachers like Majors help our community grow and give students a strong figure to look up to as they are being shaped in their high school years. It is clear that he wants the best for every single student, whether they are in therapeutic management or coaching, a student is always better off with Majors in the picture.
