The cheer team has officially taken the field this past month as students settle into the new school year. As more football games are in session, the cheer team does an undeniably great job at helping the student section get hyped up for the games.
The 2025-2026 Aliso Varsity Cheer team has two team captains: Molly Davis (12) and Ella Volokhine (12). This year the cheer team has 16 members on varsity and 27 members on junior varsity. With a total of 43 eager cheerleaders, their school spirit shines regardless.
The importance of team captains lies in their ability to guide a team into success by putting in immense efforts in and out of practice.
A common misconception about cheerleading is that it requires less effort than other sports on campus. In reality, the strength required to perform stunts and the skill needed to tumble on the hard track show just how demanding the sport truly is.
Many cheerleaders come from gymnastics backgrounds. Avery Murphy, a sophomore on varsity explained, “I did gymnastics for a very long time and felt like joining cheer made me feel like I still have a connection to it.”
Once football season comes to an end, the cheer team will be transferring their spirit over to the basketball courts to start the winter season of cheering for another beloved sport at our school.
Though their competition season does not begin until the spring, we know we are able to count on them for raising our school spirit in the meantime.
