The two most popular electives in the 900 hallway consist of culinary arts and ASB. Both electives are very influential for both students and staff. The culinary class in room 921 is a very interesting and fun class to take for all students who are interested in creating artistic and delicious foods while following specific instructions in order to become successful in the culinary arts elective.
Kristen Martinez, a senior who is currently taking culinary arts, says ¨I think the most exciting thing we´ve made so far has been the scones. I really liked making these because I never really thought about making them before. I chose to take culinary arts because I´ve always had an interest in cooking and baking. I just wanted more of an opportunity to be in the kitchen and be able to say that I´ve made several different dishes.¨
If other students have the same interest in culinary arts like Kristen does, it´s an amazing class to take, especially during senior year because there is not as much academic stress to worry about unlike previous school years. Students are usually allowed to bring in treats from their culinary class to other classes for their teachers to enjoy, as it is an accomplishment that students want to present to their mentors. In addition to culinary arts, ASB is the glue that holds our school together.
Taleiya Gordon, Junior Class Vice President, says, ¨I love to do fun activities that help our student body. One important lesson I have learned from ASB is that if something goes wrong, there is no need to panic. Remaining calm while working through the problem with your team will always provide a solution.¨
The foundation of ASB is based on leadership and teamwork as it supports school spirit through football games, pep rallies, volunteer opportunities, and much more! It is the perfect elective to take if you like to participate in all of these activities. All of these experiences in electives will ultimately help students grow as they step out of their comfort zone to learn about something new.
