Last year the Aliso Niguel Football team placed fourth in the Foxtrot league with a season record of 7-4.
Finley Torrico (12) has been a prominent player for the team, being both a tight end and a wide receiver. Torrico has been a Varsity starter since his sophomore year, playing 16 games with 300 yards and 4 touchdowns.
His first time playing tackle football was when he first entered high school, but he has played flag football every year since eight years old up until eight grade. Going into his freshman year of high school he decided to give tackle football a try and during his first game realized how much he loved it.
Torrico says, “The main reasons I love football are that I get to be super physical and hit people, it has a bond between me and my current and past teammates that is similar to a brotherly bond, and I love winning.”
He attributes a majority of his success from countless hours of training with his blocking coach, receiver coach, speed trainer and the work in the weight room. He is also tall, standing at 6’6” and weighing 255 pounds.
Torrico has also been a star at Baseball, playing since he was four years old and up until his sophomore year in high school. Though he was fairly talented at baseball with even dreams of one day making it to the MLB, he quit to focus all his time and energy on football.
After high school Torrico plans to play Division I college football as well as wanting to major in either STEM or finance.
Currently Torrico has offers coming in from, Cal Poly SLO, UPenn, Yale, University of Montana, Northern Arizona University and University of San Diego. Along with these great offers, he is still hoping for additional offers from the University of Utah, Vanderbilt, Boise State and San Diego State.
After college he hopes to play in the NFL and as a fallback would go into the STEM or finance world.
Torrico says, “The people that have helped me the most along my football journey are 100% my parents”.
His parents have funded his travels to attend camps all across the country, filled out questionnaires for dozens of schools, helped him connect and communicate with coaches as well as paying for his training.
He would also like to thank Coach Calahan who has had the most impact on his football career. Coach Calahan has given numerous opportunities to contact colleges and bring coaches to see him play.
We also can’t forget all the trainers that have helped develop Torrico into the star player that he is today. The difference between his beginning in Tackle Football to now is an astonishing difference.
Finley Torrico is a promising player who still has one year left of high school football where he will continue to improve upon his game to get ready for his career in Division I college football and hopefully the NFL.
