Though the new school year brings a fun opportunity for students to start another yearlong academic and athletic journey, the past summer brought exciting opportunities for many of the wolverines. A great way for students to spend their summer in a productive way is by finding summer internships.
Internships are beneficial shadowing experiences that can include young and interested people in their career of interest. Through internships, students can get a feel of the environment and work field by spending time with professionals.
Some internships include, medical internships, finance shadowings, political internship and law.
All these different opportunities are often offered by local hospitals, firms or businesses. However, different colleges similar to Saddleback also offer programs that specialize in certain areas for teenagers who want to do internships.
Similarly, more well known universities like Harvard, Yale and Georgetown offer internships that often require students to travel nationwide in order to participate in a certain event or internship.
Many wolverines have already gotten a head start and spent their past summer at local internships, learning new knowledge and skills. They committed themselves to the programs rather than getting distracted by fun activities all summer.
Shaya Danesh (11) said, “I had a great time at my medical internship. I think it was an amazing opportunity for me to get to know about the medical field better and spend time with professionals. I got to ask a lot of questions and just overall had a great time and I thought it was a great step towards my goals.”
Internships are an amazing way to show colleges that you are passionate about the career you have an interest in. Participating in programs not only is an amazing experience, but they also set the path straight for students.
Another student, Annabel Baxter (11), spent her time doing an internship in England.
Baxter said, “I thought that it was great to get a feel of the area and work field. I got to meet amazing people and professionals and it helped me realize whether I have an interest in this career or not.”
Many times getting to hear another professional’s path and their story helps current young high-achievers to learn and know more about the steps that they should take.
Baxter said, “I’m really excited to go back next year and do another internship. I feel like I gained a lot of valuable knowledge and cannot wait to go back to get new experiences.”
Overall, internships offer an easy and rewarding opportunity for new experiences and knowledge. They allow students to set their future paths clear and start to think about their steps and interests.
