On April 18, 2025, students and staff gathered at a car show held at Aliso Niguel High School. Spearheaded by senior Armon Alavi, the event drew attention for everyone on campus. The event goes further than showing off cars—it was also about showcasing hard work and passion.
“Since I was a kid, I’ve had a passion for cars,” Armon said. “It’s been a big part of how I connect with people. When I was younger, I was shy and had a hard time starting conversations. But through the auto program, I’ve gained confidence and found a community that shares the same interests.”
His love for cars pushed him to take on the challenge of organizing the show. With support from ASB and Auto Shop classmates, Armon planned the event from the ground up.
Planning an event does not come without its challenges. Alavi shares that one of the biggest hurdles was “Coordinating the date so that all the out-of-school sponsors—especially emergency services—could attend”
With dedication though, the efforts paid off. The show featured cars from classic all the way to super cars. Among them was a restoration project led by the auto teacher. It was transformed from a rusted frame to a newly paneled beauty.
Auto Shop teacher Mr. Folino adds, “Armon really spearheaded this whole thing. I just supported him with any questions—like layout, award categories, and car types. He made it happen…”, showing how student driven this event was.
Mr. Folino also explains how events like this tie into the core of the Auto program. “We want the school to see that we do way more than oil changes and brakes. Back here, we’re doing engine rebuilds, transmission work, restorations…”
The event also aimed to break down misconceptions about the Auto Shop class and encourage more students to explore it. “I hope the wider school community realizes how deep our skills go.”
The future of the car show? Armon hopes it becomes a tradition. “It would be great to see it continue after I graduate,” he said.
Mr. Folino agrees, adding “I’d love to see it grow over the next decade…This year’s show was a great start.”
Overcoming shyness and organizing a school event, Alavi demonstrates how passion, leadership, and hands-on education can come together. A simple car show is much more than the cars themselves.
