The Aliso Boys Baseball team continues to gain momentum as the season continues. The boys are doing well, with a winning record of 5-2 heading into the game against Fountain Valley High School.
At the time of the game, Fountain Valley High School was also very strong with a record of 3-1. However, the Wolverines prevailed, winning three to one. All of Aliso’s runs were produced in the ninth inning, with the game overall being very defensive.
Both senior Connor Etnire and Senior Alex Hamada recorded two strikeouts each, with senior and University of Southern California commit, Jarrett Sabol, getting one hit on his only at-bat despite three plate appearances for the Wolverines. Senior Alex Hamada, Brandon Schaff and Cooper Flemming got the three runs to improve the Wolverines’ record to six and two heading into a game against El Toro.
The Wolverines with a five-game winning streak faced off against the El Toro Chargers at home. With the help of a strong first inning and a run scored down the road in the fourth, Aliso Niguel lifted past the El Toro Chargers, extending their win streak to six.
Pitcher and senior Harrison Plummer states, “The most fun part of the team culture is that we all grew up together, so we are practically family. We always have fun and are always making jokes with each other. Team bonding is weekly and it is very fun, especially at The Grotto.”
After the El Toro game the Wolverines played against Newport Harbor High School, who have had a total record of nine and one, and are currently ranked seventeenth in California.
Newport Harbor scored a run in the second and fourth inning respectively, while Aliso responded with one in the fifth. Unfortunately, this was not enough to get the job done for the Wolverines, as they fell short, marking their second loss of the season.
Following the Newport Harbor game, Aliso took part in a tournament in which they played three games against Reed high school in Nevada, San Clemente high school, and Canyon Springs high school from Moreno Valley.
In the first game of the tournament, the Wolverines showcased a dominant performance, winning seven to one against Reed.
In the second game, the score was closer, however, the Wolverines still came out on top, winning three to one against the Tritons.
Sitting at 2-0 to finish off the tournament perfectly, the Wolverines matched up against Canyon Springs High School. Once again Aliso could not be stopped, as the Wolverines recorded their first shutout since that game against El Toro.
Junior Carson Etnire was a spark for the Wolverines getting two hits and two RBIs in three at-bats in the 7-0 win for Aliso to end the tournament.
Senior Connor Etnire speaks out about how special it is for him to play his last year with his brother, “It’s been really fun to have Carson on the same team as me for my last year of high school. He’s always played with me on the same team since we were five years old so I’m glad we get to play together again one last time.”
Aliso baseball ventures out into league play in the following weeks.
