The Aliso Niguel High School boys’ swim team continues to make significant strides this season, building upon their undefeated record across all three levels—varsity, junior varsity and open. Their unwavering dedication and rigorous training regimen have positioned them as formidable contenders in the South Coast League.
Under the guidance of Coach Puffer, the team engages in rigorous training sessions, swimming approximately 3,500 yards per practice, with about 1,750 yards dedicated to all-out sprints. Coach Puffer emphasizes the intensity of these workouts, stating, “We typically swim 3,500, usually about 1,750 of it is all-out sprints; they’re hard.”
A key factor in the team’s success is its depth across all three levels—varsity, junior varsity and frosh-soph. This depth has been instrumental in the team’s undefeated record at all levels this season.
Coach Puffer notes, “So far, our team’s undefeated at all three levels.”
With a history of four league titles, the team is ambitiously pursuing its fifth championship. Coach Puffer believes that the team’s depth will be pivotal in achieving this goal: “It’s that depth that’s gonna lead us to success in league this year and hopefully beyond.”
He further asserts, “Our goal is to win the South Coast League.”
The season has also been marked by significant individual improvements, with many swimmers achieving personal bests. Coach Puffer observes, “A lot of boys are dropping times.”
The improvements are a reflection of the effectiveness of their training regimen and the athletes’ dedication.
The team’s focus is now on the upcoming South Coast League Championships, where they aim to capitalize on their depth and momentum to secure the title. The championships are scheduled as per the CIF Southern Section calendar, with the last league contest for swimming set for May 3, 2025.
The team’s success has garnered attention and support from the Aliso Niguel High School community. The school’s athletics calendar and announcements provide updates on upcoming meets and events, encouraging student and community involvement.
