Girls Beach Volleyball has started off strong this season, already playing several good games against competitive teams.
Currently, in the 2024-2025 spring season, the team has a winning record of 5-4. The team is ranked 42 in California and 134 nationally.
Coach Tinker says, “We’ve won against some really good teams and we’ve had a lot of really good learning experiences too so it’s been really good.”
The team captains are, Macey Smith (12), Nadia Taraman (12), and Gigi Green (12). Green has already committed to the University of Utah for beach volleyball, a Division 1 program.
To kick off the season, on Feb. 11, they played Santa Margarita High School, losing 5-0. Shortly after, on Feb. 18, they played Marina High School, winning 3-2. More recently, they played San Clemente on March 19, losing 3-2.
In their two most recent games, the Wolverines played San Juan Hills, where they lost 4-1, and Tesoro High School where they also lost 4-1.
So far, a highlight of their season was playing a tournament in Santa Barbara on Feb. 28 and March 1st. They got to play 3 different Santa Barbara teams, which included Santa Barbara High School, San Marcos High School and Dos Pueblos High School. They lost against Santa Barbara 4-1, and San Marcos 4-1. However the Wolverines achieved a victory against Dos Pueblos, winning 5-0. A promising player in the team is Kenzie Schaeffer (9). She is one of two freshmen on varsity.
“Kenzie Schaeffer has been doing really well so it’s been cool to see her grow so much this year and I’m excited to see where she goes throughout her high school career” says Coach Tinker.
In their next game, they will be playing San Clemente High School on April 3.
