The track season is underway, which means Aliso Boys Track and Field will continue to dominate and improve all the way until Mt. Sac Relays during the middle of April.
The boys’ first meet was their Intrasquad where all of Aliso competed against each other in events ranging from the 100 meter to the 1600 meter, and even jumps. This meet is important for the beginning of the season to place each member in the correct category and level.
For the men’s 100 and 200 meters, Hunter Hagins (11) led with a staggering 11.66 and 23.50 seconds respectively. Next was the 400 where Soda Pop Dailey (11) ran a 52.95.
In the last two regular runs, the 800 and 1600 Kaden Christensen ran a 2:24.07 and 4:58.82.
Next were the 110 and 300 meter hurdles both led by River Embry (10) with 16.55 and 44.19 seconds. Lastly was the long jump where Hunter Hagins again placed first jumping 20 feet and 10 inches.
Their next meet was on March 8 at the 45th Irvine/ASICS Track and Field Invitational where only a select few were able to compete. In the 100 meter Hunter Hagins improved by 0.44 seconds and ran a 11.22.
Next in the 200 two runners Vincent Miyashiro (12) and Mason Gill (12) ran 24.14 and 24.53 respectively. In the 400 was Armondo Krosi (11) with a 52.29 and Jaedyn Varnado at 53.48.
In the half mile and full mile Faris Radieddine placed sixth in both running 1:57.21 and 4:20.37. In addition, the two mile Karson Brunke placed 11th with a 9:38.97.
The first relay of the season, the 4 by 100, Aliso placed fourth just behind Beckman. In the high jump, Felipe Guimaraes (12) placed fourth jumping 6 feet, while in the long jump Dane Malloy hopped 43 feet and 7 inches.
Next was Aliso vs Capo Valley on March 12, where Aliso boys dominated with a final score of 87 to 38. In the 100 meter, Shaun Thompson (12) ran a 11.60 while in the 3200 Edward Hocking (12) went a 10:40.60.
In the 4 by 400 both Aliso teams lost to Capo Valley by at least six seconds and in the long jump Dane Malloy and Hunter Hagins dominated easily taking first and second place.
Throughout the middle of March the boys had many filler meets where they raced against dozens of schools. These meets included the ASICS Laguna Beach Trophy Invitational, Triton Invitational, Beach Cities Invitational and Meet of Champions.
Finally, March 27, ANHS had their second school vs school meet against San Clemente, the boys winning with just a 144 to 120. In the shot put, the top three were Brayden Bogert (12), Corey Lewis (11) and Jacob Boyne (10).
In the 400 meters, the top three were also all Aliso with, Jaedyn Varnado at first then Armondo Krosi and Soda Pop Dailey. In the 1600 meter, unfortunately San Clemente took first but the next four were all Aliso runners.
Finally, the OC Champs came around on March 29 which was held at Mission Viejo High School. Unfortunately, Aliso was not able to take first in any event and their closest to the podium was in their 4 by 400 relay in second place with a time of 3:26.52.
Though many personal records were beaten at the Championships, Aliso still has one more important meet to go, the 65th Mt. Sac Relays. This meet is very important, with just a few members being selected to race it every year.
Beating both Capo Valley and San Clemente this year, Aliso has had an amazing season so far, and will hopefully continue it all the way through the Mt. SAC Relays.
