The College and Career Advantage Dental Assisting students receive their Radiology Safety and Infection Certifications this semester.
This certificate shows dental students are properly trained to manage X-rays safely and allows students to perform dental radiology procedures and process X-rays. In order to receive the certification, students have completed the course through dual enrollment programs and have done the necessary coursework and passed exams to do so. In the dental assisting program, many students learn hands-on work, how to safely use X-rays and assist in dental offices.
These certifications often cover safety, techniques, processing and following legal guidelines.
Ryan Ramlawi (12) says, “I am happy to finally get a certificate so I can be more advanced and show what I’ve accomplished.”
It is a very crucial thing to have due to it being required in the future if students wanted to become a dental assistant. In California, it is required to obtain a X-Ray certificate as a dental field and legally perform these procedures. Students get a head start on those without it and can be more qualified for jobs. Students will also earn college credit for completing the class, learn real-world experiences and required internship hours that can be beneficial in the future.
In California, this certificate may need to be renewed every two years as a safety precaution and must be completed through more education requirements.
Ramlawi adds, “I spent many hours trying to get it and it will really help me in the future if I want to continue in the dental field.”
