On March 13, the Aliso Boys Tennis team was scheduled to play another pre-season game against Capo Valley at our own home courts. Unfortunately, it was raining in the morning which cancelled the game, shortening their season even more.
Luckily, the rain stopped after then and the Boys were able to continue their season, playing their next league match against Tesoro on March 18 at our courts again. The match began at 3 p.m. starting off with close rallies, both teams keeping the score close.
In the middle, Tesoro started pulling forward by one point, then another, eventually towards the end being up by more than five points. Finally, the match concluded with Tesoro being up eight points to Aliso’s five, making the final score 13 to 5.
Shahab Touski (12) says, “I definitely could have played better but wasn’t feeling too good and I was unable to perform my best. I still have high hopes for the rest of the season though.”
Two days later, on March 20, Aliso played Dana Hills for another League match at our home courts. Unfortunately, Dana Hills led the whole day in points, defeating Aliso 12 to 6.
Over the weekend, the Aliso Boys recovered to come back even stronger. They faced off against Trabuco Hills at their courts on March 25.
Aliso was favored to win this meet but it was still a close match. The score bounced back and forth each round. Eventually, Aliso was able to pull through by two points, winning with a score of 10 to 8.
This brought Aliso’s season record to a close three wins and four losses, making their win percent 0.429 percent. This finally broke their unlucky lossing streak of four matches.
The Aliso Boys’ final match of March was played away against Beckman, who are notorious for being a very tough competitor. Aliso started off very rough not being able to score a single point through the halfway point.
Towards the end it got even worse, Beckman was completely obliterating Aliso by not letting a single point go. Finally, when the matches were over, the final score was a staggering 0 to 18, one of the most devastating losses in Aliso’s season.
April is the last month of tennis for the boys, with just six more matches to go, four of them being league. Their first two games will be on the first and third against San Clemente and Tesoro.
Then it’s spring break, where the boys will have time to recover with no games that week. Next on April 15 and 17 they will play Dana Hills and San Juan Hills.
Finally, their last two games will be against Beckman and San Clemente on April 22 and 24 respectively.
Fortunately, with the amount of games left, Aliso still has a chance to get a positive record and even has a decent shot in league finals; however, with the lineup they will be facing it may be a difficult task.
