The Aliso Niguel girls’ swim team is off to a strong start this season, with a mix of experienced seniors and rising underclassmen leading the charge. Under Coach Cox’s guidance, the team has already secured key wins and is setting its sights on upcoming league meets and CIF qualifications.
So far, the team has competed in four meets, facing off against San Juan Hills, Capistrano Valley, Dana Hills, and a recent meet against El Toro. With each competition, the Wolverines have demonstrated their depth and determination, showcasing standout performances across all events.
Coach Cox, the team’s head coach, says, “We have nine seniors, which is a big deal … It’s going to be tough next year without them, but we also have several freshmen stepping up and making an impact.”
One of the biggest strengths of this year’s team is its balance between seasoned seniors and promising newcomers. Freshmen like Reegan Graff and Emma Klein have already started making waves, with Graff even securing CIF-qualifying times.
At the top of the lineup is senior Devon Silberman (12), one of the team’s strongest swimmers and a returning CIF and State qualifier. Silberman has consistently dominated her events and has already secured a college scholarship for swimming. Coach Cox explains how she wins almost every event she swims; she placed in the top three at CIF last year.
While individual accomplishments are impressive, the team’s ultimate goal is success in league competition. During the meet against San Juan Hills, several varsity swimmers secured key victories for Aliso Niguel: Regan Graff in the 200 Free, Maya Voss 200 IM, Devon Silberman 100 Fly, Devon Silberman 500 Free, and many more. The team’s recent victory over San Juan Hills was a strong start, but challenging meets against Tesoro, San Clemente, and Beckman still lie ahead. These matchups will be crucial in determining the team’s league standing and qualification for the postseason.
Spring break training will be a key period for the team as they prepare for the final league meets and the highly competitive league championships. The Wolverines have already secured two automatic CIF relay times, an accomplishment that Coach Cox says is rare this early in the season. Additionally, individual swimmers are working toward securing more CIF-qualifying times, with Silberman already earning automatic qualification and Voss coming close in the
breaststroke event.
Varsity swimmer Tisa Taheri (12) says, “A personal goal would be to drop time on my 50 freestyle … Yes, I have dropped some time so far, but I am continuously working to get faster!”
The team is committed to continuous improvement, striving to get better each day. They aim to achieve strong victories in league championships and are working toward these goals through dedicated practice and hard work.
As the final stretch of the season approaches, the Wolverines are focused on their goals—winning key league meets, sending more swimmers to CIF, and continuing to build on the strong foundation set by this year’s standout performers. With hard work, depth, and determination, the girls’ swim team is ready to make a splash in the postseason, proving they have what it takes to compete at the highest level.
