The Aliso Niguel High School Girls Swim team is striving to accomplish another successful season this spring.
The first batch of races to kick off the season for the girls swim team is the Aliso Niguel Teal and Black intrasquad.
In the 200 Medley Relay of Splits, the Wolverines performed well. Alexa Disano led off with the backstroke, finishing in 31.50 seconds, and senior Maya Voss followed with the breaststroke at 41.22 seconds. The last two swimmers in the relay are senior Gabi Lueken on fly and Celeste TerAvest on freestyle. In total, the Wolverines combined for a total time of 1:07.94.
The next meet for the Wolverines is the first competitive meet against a school, which turned out to be against Dana Hills, longtime school rivals of the Wolverines. Aliso is projected to have a strong program this year, with there being a large count of seniors this year.
The Wolverines entered 43 swimmers to participate in the meet, while the Dana Hills Dolphins only registered 17. Consequently, the Wolverines wiped out the Dolphins in point totals, with the Wolverines taking home 367 points, and the Dolphins only 65. The Wolverines also had an average point per swimmer average, with the Wolverines holding 8.53 points per swimmer, and the Dolphins holding 3.82 points per swimmer.
Some notable races that the Wolverines participated in were the girls 500-yard freestyle. Aliso’s Regan Graff finished in first place with a time of 5:23.48, with Dana Hills’ Molly Anderson coming in second with a time of 5:54.49.
In the girls 100-yard freestyle, senior Holly Lung came out on top of her heat, winning with a time of 1:04.68.
In the girls 100-yard fly, all girls from Aliso Niguel dominated this event. Senior and University of California Santa Barbara Swim Commit, Devon Silberman, posted an astounding time of 1:00.27. Silberman earned a maximum total of 6 points for the Wolverines. Taking second place in this heat is another one of Aliso’s own Elisha Ng, with a total time of 1:08.05, earning four points as well. Gabi Lueken made another contribution as well to the team, earning third place in the race. Both the Dana Hills swimmers came in second to last and last.
Maddie Roy (12) gives her opinion of what she expects from the season: “I think that the season will be very fun, as it is the senior’s last season. There will be lots of ups and downs, and I feel confident that we have practiced and prepared to do our very best.”
Tisa Tiheri (12) also shares,“I’m looking most forward to swimming in league championships at the end of our season. It’s the most important meet for us and we have been working up to it all season. ”
The Wolverines have the upcoming Capo Valley Relay Invitational to look forward to.
