The Aliso Boys Tennis team just started their season on Feb. 20, with their first match facing off against Laguna Hills High School.
The Aliso Boys easily ran through Laguna Hills, defeating them with a whopping 18 to nothing, a good way to start off the season.
Five days later on Feb. 25, El Toro High School came to the Aliso Tennis courts to face off in their second non-league match of the season. The whole match was just an easy practice for Aliso.
The Aliso Boys were able to effortlessly win, up eight points against El Toro they finished with a score of 13 to 5. So far their record was flawless, up two to nothing in their non-league matches.
Feb. 27 was another non-league match at the Aliso’s courts against Newport Harbor High School. Aliso started off great with many rallies going back and forth. Towards the middle Newport Harbor were pulling ahead with a couple points but Aliso still kept up hope.
Shahab Touski (12) says, “We were playing good at the beginning and towards the middle we were starting to fall apart, the Newport Harbor team was just really good. But unfortunately we lost but at least we played our hardest”.
In the end Aliso was unfortunately defeated with their first loss of the season with a score of 13 to five.
Aliso’s next non-league match was played on March 4 at Santa Margarita Catholic High School against the Santa Margarita Eagles. Off the bat it was evident that Aliso was struggling against their very strong opponents.
Aliso finished off their match with just three points against their rival’s 15 points.
Now Aliso’s great start to their season has dropped off with their record diminishing to just two and two.
Aliso’s fourth match was planned on March 5, but unfortunately due to bad weather conditions it was rescheduled to a later date.
Austin Ceily (11) comments, “I was really looking forward to playing this match in hopes of getting in good practice against a team that is notorious for being good”.
Though the weather seems to not be clearing up in the second week of March which will ultimately push back their two games against Trabuco Hills High School on the 11 and Capo Valley High School on the 13. This pushes their schedule back two weeks which may cause them to play multiple matches back to back in the following weeks.
The Aliso Boys Tennis team will start their official League match on March 18 against Tesoro High School but it also seems to be forecasted for rain. Luckily their second League match against Dana Hills High School two days later seems to be a bright and sunny day, which will allow Aliso to get back on track to their previous schedule.
After that, the boys will have four more league games left, playing against Beckman, Tesoro and San Clemente twice. Then will come their league finals match which is still undetermined, but the team will have a great chance of winning if they continue to put in effort.
