Packed full of action, friendships and character cameos, “Captain America: Brave New World” hit theaters on Feb. 14.
Ever since the hit television series “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier” came out in 2021, Marvel fans have awaited the return of Captain America played by Anthony Mackie.
After many trailers were released, fans were excited for the new movie as it seemed to be a fantastic introduction to the new Captain America.
Unfortunately, it turned out to be a let down. Many critics are even claiming this is one of the worst movies that Marvel has put out since “Eternals” in 2021.
According to comicbook.com, “Captain America: Brave New World” already has a detrimental score on Rotten Tomatoes at 51 percent.
“That puts ‘Brave New World’ on par with 2021’s ‘Eternals,’ which was the lowest-rated MCU [Marvel Cinematic Universe] movie at 47 percent until that movie was surpassed by 2023’s ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s’ 46 percent,” says writer for comibook.com, Cameron Bonomolo.
Starring actors Harrison Ford, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan and Shira Haas, the film had an outstanding cast, but still failed to deliver what fans were expecting.
The film reminded many of what the MCU used to be like when the films first appeared in theaters. The film lacked heroes with special powers and mentions of alternate universes, just like the original story lines did.
The lack of all the entertainment that comes with those factors also made the film feel a little uneventful and boring to some viewers.
In his review on Rotten Tomatoes, Kyle Smith from the Wall Street Journal says, “If ‘Brave New World’ isn’t an event film, at least it’s competently executed, without resorting to played-out gimmickry such as skipping across the multiverse. And it gives the audience plenty of analogues for real-world problems.”
Despite that semi-good review, many believe that this is just more evidence that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is falling off. They no longer make Marvel movies like they used to, and fans are upset about that fact.
Overall, the movie did serve its purpose: introducing this new Captain America; however, many fans are missing that MCU flare that usually comes with these movies.
During the film, there were many references to other films, television series and future plot lines. Using this as evidence, MCU fans can expect many new films in the near future.
