Aliso Niguel High School hosted its annual Eighth Grade Expo on Feb. 11 from 5:45 to 8 p.m. The event welcomed incoming freshmen and their parents to the campus to get a feel of what is in store for them if they decide to go to ANHS as their high school of choice.
“The 8th Grade Expo is useful in helping incoming freshmen learn about the school and what they can expect and be a part of. There were many people who came to the event,” says Brandon Perez (11).
The event began with a presentation by two ASB members detailing the courses available at ANHS, including regular, honors and Advanced Placement classes (AP). Attendees also got to watch the performances from dance team and Dance Appreciation (DA).
The event also included members from band and choir to talk about the visual performing art department. The ASB members also brought up how upcoming eighth graders can be more involved with the school by joining the Associated Student Body (ASB) and how that can prove beneficial for those who are interested. The ASB members also detailed the different sports offered and the sports department of the school.
Representatives of the different sport teams stood in front of the crowd after the ASB members were done explaining. Later, a video showcasing Aliso Niguel High School’s campus and other aspects of the school was played during the presentation.
Towards the end of the presentation, Principal Dr. Mahindrakar delivered a speech before the families were invited to explore information booths set up across campus. There were many booths, some that covered electives, the college and career center and counseling service located in the main gym. All the different sports booths were located both in the main and smaller gym, academic programs booths were located in the science building and the performing arts department was represented in the cafeteria along with ASB.
“I’d say the turnout was pretty good. Although a little congested at times, we managed to distribute flyers to most people passing by. I believe that with the amount of visual aids, pamphlets and representatives present, each program did well to expose the incoming freshman to the variety of activities offered, as well as providing a glimpse into campus culture. From the marching band’s end, plenty of students seemed enthusiastic about the event and joining our amazing programs!” says Ayame Huber (11).
