As the girls’ basketball season came to an end, Coach Scott Majors is excited for the future that is to come with the program. His coaching method relies on discipline, accountability and hard work, and it is reflected through the team’s identity.
Coach Majors has always been a basketball enthusiast but what inspired him to share his passion through coaching was the opportunity to develop young athletes’ lives, not only on the court, but also beyond the court.
He shares that, “Basketball teaches discipline, teamwork and resilience—lessons that extend far beyond the court.”
Prior to becoming Aliso’s Varsity head coach, he had several years of coaching experience at different levels, focusing on player development. However, leading a high school varsity team presented a new challenge.
“When I first took over, I saw a team with a lot of potential but lacking structure, discipline and accountability,” he shares. “But I also noticed that the players were eager to work hard and step up, which gave me hope for the program’s future.”
The season was not without its obstacles as one of the biggest challenges he faced was shifting the team culture. He had to establish new expectations, holding players accountable for attendance and effort, which was a significant adjustment for athletes.
“It was about getting the players to buy into a mindset where we take responsibility for our successes and failures, rather than blaming external factors,” he explained.
Even with obstacles, hard work enabled the team to overcome obstacles. Coach Majors is proud of the progress his team has made, sharing that, “Seeing the growth in my players—both on and off the court—has been the most rewarding part. Watching them develop confidence, push through challenges and come together as a team has made all the hard work worth it.”
Upon reflection of the season, he is excited as he looks ahead to next season. Coach Majors has a clear vision as to what he wants to accomplish in the team’s development.
“I want to continue building a disciplined, hard working culture. My focus is on improving our overall skill level, game IQ and conditioning so we can compete at a higher level.”
He also emphasizes the importance of establishing stronger leadership regardless of class as he wants to “continue playing the players who show commitment and effort, regardless of seniority.”
In the long run, he envisions building a program known for its toughness, discipline, and relentless effort, “one where players take pride in being part of the team and where expectations for excellence are the standard.” He emphasizes the importance of “not only succeed in basketball but also carry these lessons into life.”
For students considering joining the team next year, Coach Majors has a simple message: “Be ready to work hard and commit to the team. Show up every day, give your best effort, and be coachable.”
He highlights that “the best players aren’t always the most talented—they’re the ones who put in the work, stay disciplined, and support their teammates.”
With his first season completed and a clear vision for the future, Coach Majors is determined to elevate the program and create strong, youthful athletes that will carry on lifelong lessons.
