As the semester begins, students are introducing their new clubs at club rush.
Aliso Niguel’s new clubs this year offer new opportunities for students to impact their future by learning and gaining experience, as well as helping students connect with peers who share common interests or values.
President Caleb Eyre (11), Vice President Grady Callister (11) and their friends came up with the club Adopt A Grandparent. He wanted to make a difference to the elderly and to hear the stories they share and life lessons they have to offer.
It gives the elderly people, who do not have family or friends, someone to talk to. It allows the elderly to bond and continue to impact the younger generation, even with a short story or life advice. Not only does it benefit them, but it benefits the students participating as well. As of now, meetings will take place once a month every Thursday in Room 310 with Mr. Lihme.
Eyre says, “ I noticed that there are a lot of old people in society that are commonly neglected and left behind, so I just wanted to give them a place or support and just someone to talk to.”
President Ulyana Tsetsulnikova (11) and her Vice President Miyako Cros (10) organized the club Hearts to Humanity. Tsetulnikova wanted the opportunity to give students impactful, but convenient ways to acquire volunteer hours for college applications. They have already done senior cards and contributed to the Sea Country Community Center for the elderly. Their meetings are usually Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays once a month.
Tsetulnikova adds, “We also plan to do working hotlines and some beach clean ups. We want to expand, but also keep it simple for members.”
President Abby Pomery (10), Vice President Bethany Cheng (10) and Miyako Cros (10) formed the club Fine Artists Society. Their club focuses on bringing students together who are interested in visual arts and allow them to express themselves. Students will have the opportunity to create murals and cards for children and the elderly in the community. No prior art experience is required or needed. This club is about being creative, expressing passion for art and meeting new people with the same interest. Their first meeting will be Feb. 18 in room S101 with Ms. Zhou and will regularly be held every first and third Tuesday.
Pomery says, “My goal is to open more opportunities for students who are interested in art and to raise more awareness because it’s often overlooked at our campus.”
These new clubs are great for students at ANHS to participate in, and will help students find friends, family and community.
