The Aliso Boys Soccer team’s season has just come to an end with an unfortunate loss against Harvard-Westlake losing one to nothing. This was their second CIF match with their first being a victory against the Notre Dame (SO) Knights two to one.
Before Aliso’s CIF run, they had four more South Coast League matches against San Juan Hills, Mission Viejo, Capistrano Valley and San Clemente.
Their match against San Juan Hills was played on Jan. 22 where Aliso was defeated four to two, with San Juan Hills scoring two more points than their last match on Jan. 8. Two days later Aliso played Mission Viejo winning easily by scoring two over Mission’s zero goals.
Jan. 29 was their last match of the month, which was played against Capistrano Valley, where Aliso finally overcame their tie with Capistrano Valley and beat them one to nothing. This boosted Aliso to a League standing of three wins, two losses and two ties.
Aliso’s final League match was on Feb. 3 against San Clemente where they unfortunately lost again, losing three to zero. This brought Aliso to their final League standing of third place behind San Clemente and San Juan Hills, and setting Aliso to play their first CIF game soon after.
Aliso played their first CIF match at Notre Dame High School on Feb. 12, which was an exciting back and forth match that would determine whether or not Aliso would advance to the second round of CIF. Luckily they beat the Knights two to one, sending the Aliso Niguel Wolverines to play in their second match against the Harvard-Westlake Wolverines who defeated the Great Oaks one to nothing.
Saturday, Feb. 15, Aliso traveled to Studio City to face off against their second CIF opponent. With Harvard-Westlake being ranked much higher than Aliso Niguel, it was an uphill battle for our Wolverines who are ranked 21 behind Harvard-Westlake in their Sectional Division.
The match was very active with lots of back and forth movement, but in the end, Aliso Niguel was pinched out, losing one to nothing. This officially kicked Aliso Niguel out of their 2024-2025 CIF run and ultimately ended their season.
