Dance Appreciation (DA) has prepared long and hard for their competition season. They have practiced and perfected their performances all year for their upcoming competitions.
DA will have competitions over the next couple of months and the state championship will take place at the end of March.
So far this season they have performed multiple times. They performed at the Homecoming pep rally, Winter Formal pep rally, DA’s Cabaret Night and the Aliso Dance Team’s Just Dance Winter Concert.
Jasmine Orcaz, one of the DA coaches and an Aliso Niguel alum, shares, “I am excited for our competition season, we had a very strong season last year so I think all of our dancers are really fired up to make this another successful one.”
DA is coached by choreographer David Lim and former DA member Jasmine Orcaz. The officers this year include captains Alyssa Vargas (12) and Avah Parsi (11), sergeants at arms Noelia Rodriguez-Martinez (11) and Nicole Aguirre (11), team relations officer Lexi Burgonio (11) and social media manager Zoe Vovan (11).
On February 1, DA kicked off their competition season at the Golden Hawk Championship which took place at El Dorado High School. They competed against other schools such as Valencia High School, Fullerton Union High School, West High School, Riverside Polytechnic High School and South High School.
DA had a great run at their first competition of the year. They brought home a total of three trophies. The small group brought home the first place trophy, the medium group received fourth and the large group came in second place.
DA will have another competition at Woodbridge High School on February 22 where they will perform at the thirtieth annual Woodbridge Dance Celebration.
Avery Reyes (12) says, “I am most excited for competitions. It is my last year competing with DA since I am a senior so I am excited to do everything one last time!”
After traveling to multiple different schools for competitions, DA will finally be able to compete at home. Aliso Niguel High School will host its annual Aliso Dance Classic on March 22.
This competition will be their last one before they compete in the California Association Dance/Drill Team of Directors State Championship. The CADTD State Championship will be held on March 29 at Fountain Valley High School.
Avah Parsi (11), one of the captains on DA, says, “DA is my team, it is my passion, it is my support, I can always come to my coaches for help and guidance with everything.”
After the state championship, DA will continue to practice in preparation for their annual showcase in May at the Aliso Niguel gym. This will be their last performance of the season and the seniors of DA will have a special send off.
Dance Appreciation has been a program at Aliso Niguel since 1997 and continues to grow each year. The members of DA are dedicated to the program and determined to have a strong and successful competition season.
