The game took place in New Orleans, with multiple familiar faces performing during the opening ceremonies, such as Lady Gaga, Bradley Cooper, Lauren Daigle, Trombone Shorty and Jon Batiste. Southern University’s marching band also performed, incorporating the New Orleans music culture in the ceremonies.
Tom Brady and Kevin Burkhardt were announcing during the game, adding valuable insight about the plays being made.
The Chiefs had won the last two Super Bowls, attempting to three-peat, which ended up unsuccessful. It would have been the first three-peat for an NFL team in Super Bowl history.
The game started off with Jalen Hurts scoring a touchdown for the Eagles in the first quarter. They get the extra point, the score being 7-0, with Philadelphia in the lead. The score remained the same until the end of the quarter.
Emma Cox (10), a student who watched the game said, “My favorite play was when Cooper DeJean intercepted the play and scored a touchdown.”
Cooper DeJean became the second NFL member in history to score a touchdown on his birthday, and he was the first to do it in the Super Bowl. He intercepted a ball thrown by Patrick Mahomes, scoring six points for Philadelphia.
In the second quarter, the Eagles scored two more touchdowns, and a field goal. The Chiefs had still failed to score any points, leaving the score at halftime 24-0 Philadelphia.
During the halftime show, Kendrick Lamar performed with guests SZA and Samuel L. Jackson. His show was American themed, and Jackson was portrayed as Uncle Sam. Lamar performed songs like “Squabble Up”, “Humble” and “Not Like Us”.
In the third quarter of the game, Philadelphia scored another touchdown and field goal. The Chiefs ended up scoring one touchdown, but failed to achieve the two-point attempt. At this point, the score was 34-6 Philadelphia Eagles.
During the final quarter of the game, the Chiefs began to fight back, scoring two touchdowns and succeeding in both two-point attempts. The Eagles also scored two field goals, the final score of the game being 40-22 Philadelphia Eagles.
Jalen Hurts, the quarterback for the Eagles, ended up earning Super Bowl MVP Honors. He threw for two touchdowns and ended up scoring one himself.
Patrick Mahomes was sacked six times total in the game, which was the most of his career. Fans were disappointed in his performance this game, and his struggle to make successful passes to his teammates.
Many viewers of the game were surprised that the score wasn’t closer. They were disappointed and didn’t think the game was very interesting, since the score wasn’t close. Overall, Philadelphia fans were happy with the win, and celebrated after the game ended.
