Aliso Niguel High School is introducing new electives for the 2025-2026 school year that students are encouraged to sign up for. Many of these electives allow students to explore more specific interests within the arts.
The first new elective being offered is AP 2D Art and Design. This is a college level course where students work with two-dimensional designs. Students apply what they learn to new designs and ideas. The class is advanced and offers a grade boost for those who take the class.
AP 2D Art and Design works with photography, digital art, collage and printmaking. Students get to experiment with new materials and processes throughout the course. Other techniques such as animation, illustration and painting are used as well.
ANHS will also be offering AP 3D Art and Design next year. This class will have a similar curriculum to the other Art and Design class, but will be working with three-dimensional objects instead. This class also offers a grade boost for students that take the class.
In AP 3D Art and Design, students learn about ceramics, sculpting and assemblages. The work in this class can be more hands-on than AP 2D Art and Design.
Both AP Art and Design courses can be taken without any prerequisites or previous experience. The classes both have AP tests at the end of the year, which are divided into two portions: a Sustained Investigation and Selected Works. Both of these courses are offered for grades 10-12, so freshmen are unable to take these classes.
Actors Repertory Advanced is another new class available for grades 10-12 in the upcoming school year. This class focuses on more advanced techniques within theatre and acting.
Students get to study characterization, motivation and creative movement. In the class, students will study different theories of acting, and different acting techniques.
A Cappella A is another course that is offered at ANHS for the first time next year. This course is offered to students of any grade.
A Cappella A allows students to learn about blend, balance, diction and much more in a treble ensemble experience. Students will also study music from different time periods. Students in a Cappella A also get the opportunity to perform at festivals and performances that are high school affiliated.
Commercial Music is another course offered to students of all ages. This course focuses on the techniques of digital recording, and music production. Students get to gain experience with current digital recording technology and hardware.
The course also introduces students to music fundamentals and piano and keyboard skills. This class is suggested for those who are interested in the production of music.
There are many electives for students to choose from for the 2025-2026 school year. Many new electives are catered towards those interested in the arts or in music. Guidance counselors at ANHS strongly recommend these classes to students who want to pursue a career in art or music.
