As February begins and students settle back into their daily routines, it is easy to forget about Valentine’s Day amidst the varying assignments, tests and activities that fill students’ lives. Gone are the days when kids would walk into their elementary classrooms with hands stuffed full of cards and candy to exchange with friends who had decorated mailboxes on their desks.
Even though these times are long past, Valentine’s day is still a great opportunity to spend time with loved ones. There is no shortage of fun heart-shaped, glitter-covered, flower-themed activities to enjoy. Whether it be hanging out with friends, checking out special in-theme deals, or going on a date, there is something for everyone.
One popular idea is “Galentine’s Day.” This is exactly what it sounds like; girls get dressed up and spend the day together, usually doing fun crafts, watching romantic movies, baking, or other fun activities. Many ANHS students are making plans such as these.
Ami Yaghini (12) explains, “Me and my friends just started planning this today but we decided we are going to do a secret santa type thing. Each person gets somebody and we buy that person a bouquet of flowers that reminds us of that person!”
Similarly, Kaitlyn Roberts (12) shares, “On Valentine’s day me and my friends are going to hangout and eat snacks. I am also planning on dressing in Valentine’s day colors like pink and red.”
There are also several businesses offering special discounts and Valentine’s themed items. For example, Baskin Robbins is bringing back their “Love Potion” flavor which is vanilla and raspberry with chocolate hearts.
At Chick-fil-A, customers can purchase heart-shaped trays of nuggets, cookies, and other food items. This lasts all the way through Feb. 22.
Krispy Kreme is releasing new Valentine’s themed donut options called the “Hearts in Bloom” collection. This is because each donut is heart shaped and decorated with a different kind of flower. Papa John’s is also offering a heart-shaped pizza up until Feb. 16.
Trader Joe’s has also come out with a variety of Valentine’s Day themed snacks in place of their regular ones. For example there are now pink, strawberry mini ice cream cones as opposed to the standard vanilla ones.
ANHS students should at the very least take advantage of Valentine’s discounts if students are not making plans. Valentine’s Day this year is sure to be a wonderful time full of interesting activities and exceptional deals.
