Aliso Niguel’s Girls Soccer team is on the road to competing in CIF, after finishing the South Coast League in third place. Their first game in the CIF playoffs will be an away match on Wednesday, Feb. 12 against Los Alamitos High School.
Currently, Aliso’s soccer team is on the field practicing and training hard for this upcoming game as Los Alamitos holds an impressive record of seven League game victories and zero losses. As a result, they finished first in the Sunset – Surf League.
With these numbers in mind, Aliso Niguel is full of anticipation as they look forward to a massive game on the horizon. Nonetheless, Aliso’s soccer players played some good soccer to get to this incredible point in their season.
The team ended League off with a victory against Capistrano Valley High School. In a home game on Feb. 4, the team defeated the Capistrano Valley Cougars with a final score of 2-1. With this final game, Aliso ended League with two wins, two defeats and four ties.
When asked about her proudest accomplishment from the season so far, Captain Alaina Villa (12) stated, “scoring the game-winning goal in our last League game!
“If we won the game we would go directly to CIF. If we tied we would have to play the next day against San Clemente High School for a third time to see who won the tiebreaker for CIF. San Clemente was at the game and when we scored they bolted out.”
This skillfully made goal is a season highlight for the team. This impressive moment was an exhilarating core memory shared by the entire team as it reshaped the trajectory of their season.
When Emily Trapp (12), a valuable asset to the team’s defense, was asked the same question, she shared the same response. Trapp described it as her favorite moment from this year, saying “definitely our last game of the season versus Capo is the best part of the season thus far.”
She continued to describe the “high stakes” of that game and just how much pressure she and her teammates faced that day. Trapp stated, “if we didn’t win, we were going to have to play San Clemente again because we were tied in League, but my incredible teammate scored a goal in the last like 30 seconds to make it 2-1 and we won!”
In addition to Villa’s efforts, the entire team played incredibly well in this last League game. Trapp remarks on a proud moment of hers and shares that she “did a beautiful slide tackle against San Clemente too!”
Aliso Niguel’s soccer team has played an amazing 2024-2025 season and at this moment, they are working hard to continue to impress Aliso. As they continue to practice, the team shares the common hope and goal to dominate the field in CIF and win their first round against Los Alamitos. Meanwhile, friends, family and fellow Wolverines are ready to cheer on their beloved team.
