The Aliso Niguel’s boys’ golf team begins to swing off the new season.
Previously in 2024, the boys had a strong season, made it to CIF boys and had a game record of 12-3. This year, they are going into the season with higher expectations and are trying their hardest to improve their scores and do the best they can.
Alongside Head Coach Westling and Co-Head Coach Turney, players have been able to improve their game and stats along with focus on strategy. The boys are looking to secure a spot in the CIF Tournament this year and have begun working harder than ever. The team has become known for their consistent performances and a competitive season.
Starting March 17, the team begins the Estancia Tournament and their first game of the season is March 19 against Trabuco Hills High School at 3 p.m..
Austyn Le (11) is boys golf varsity captain and has been playing golf for over 10 years. In the last five years, Austyn has been playing in competitive tournaments.
Austyn adds, “My personal goal is to improve my tournaments in hopes of playing in college. My goal for this season is to beat Beckham as they are a D1 team and get to CIF.”
Ari Bilewitz (12) has been on the golf team throughout the entirety of his highschool career and is involved with Associated Student Body. He has also been playing golf since he was really young.
Ari shares, “This year I want to be more consistent and shoot better than I did last year.”
As of now, no golf matches have been played. The team has put in lots of hard work training for their season. Every week the whole team practices together as well as intrasquad, which is when players play a round and keeps score for the coaches. It helps players improve themselves and help the coaches create a lineup for the varsity team. Leading up to league matches, the boys will scrimmage other schools as a way to practice and excel their skills. Every Monday, the team meets up in room 307 for an information meeting.
This year, the boys are motivated to surpass last year’s record and placement in CIF. The preparation leading up to this involves mental and physical practice. The boys have to be able to focus on their putts and technique while drowning out the sound.
Undoubtedly, the boys golf team will have an amazing season and will be a team to watch in the Spring season.
