Aliso Niguel is home to more than 100 clubs that are either academic, service or extracurricular. One of the many service clubs here is Rotary Interact.
The Rotary Interact club is part of Rotary International, an international organization dedicated to goodwill and volunteerism.
Through the club at Aliso, the students are offered opportunities for giving back. These range from beach clean ups to toy drives.
President, Holly Kim (12), says, “Interact’s mission is to give back to our community in any way we can.”
In addition to volunteering opportunities, the Rotary International offers special scholarships for many individuals, but mainly high school students.
Kim has personally participated in the Rotary Youth Leadership Award. This is earned through a leadership camp that occurs every April. Students who attend this camp learn to be more involved in Rotary International, their community and their school.
The camp is open to sophomores and juniors, and the applications are still available. If any sophomore or juniors are interested in applying, they can visit ryla5320.org.
The club meetings are every second Tuesday of the month in Sra. Aguirre’s classroom, room 204. During the meetings, they recap Rotary events and remind members of upcoming events. There is also free pizza for members of the club at each meeting.
Currently, they are trying to add card-making to their meetings as well as everything else they do.
“I joined the club so that I could give back to my community and make memories with my friends in my last year of high school,” says Vice President, Shruti Beta (12).
If any student is interested in keeping up with Rotary Interact, there is a Rotary District newsletter that is released every first of the month.
Students can contact [email protected] to learn more about the club, volunteer activities, the RYLA camp and the Rotary District Newsletter.
As current juniors and sophomores are beginning to think about college and their applications, they also need to consider extracurricular activities. This club is a perfect outlet to get volunteer hours, scholarships, extracurricular involvement and awards for upcoming college applications.
