As the college application process looms closer for many high school seniors and juniors, college representatives become an essential part of the decision-making process.
College representatives allow students to gain a general understanding of various aspects of different colleges and universities. They aid students and provide critical information about the admissions process.
These visits often take place in scheduled presentations that are announced on the Aliso Niguel High School website as well as Instagram. The one-on-one meetings allow for students to ask questions and engage in clarifying what the colleges are looking for and whether they can be the right fit for the applicants looking forward to attending them. ANHS has multiple college representatives on campus.
A college representative’s primary responsibility is to represent a specific college or university, engaging with prospective students and providing specific information about the institution’s offerings. This can involve a wide range of activities, from academics to sports, and the college’s priorities and values.
The Aliso Niguel High School College board provides a scheduled list of the dates of the college visits starting with Soka University on Sep. 3 and ending with Hope International University on Nov. 19, making a total of 43 colleges and universities.
While the college search process can feel overwhelming, especially when students have limited exposure to a broad range of institutions, the high number of college Reps can help students find the perfect one for each student.
The ANHS librarian, Mrs. Lanning, shared her opinion on the college reps, “I think it is amazing that the students have the opportunity to be able to meet with colleges and different universities and figure out what they are really looking for. I know that it can be very challenging to find the right place for students but I really think that the college reps effect can significantly ease the process.”
This year marked a great year and improvement from the previous year’s college reps specifically because a lot of new colleges and universities came to visit. The University of Los Angeles, for example, visited for the first time and students were very interested in being able to ask questions and know more about the college.
Sophomore Lily Hoang shared, “I think It is really nice to be able to have meetings with such good colleges like UCLA because it makes it easy to prepare for applications and also understand their values especially since I have two more years to prepare and I can work on my academics and values.”
Overall, the college reps at ANHS provide such good opportunities for students to plan their futures and clarify their goals in education and career choices. They bring valuable perspectives to students who may not otherwise have the resources to explore colleges outside their local area and can highlight important factors and programs.
