Aliso Girls Basketball is on a roll so far this season, and is looking forward to improving on their winning record, as there is still a lot of basketball left to play this season.
Following their win against Woodbridge High School, the girls played against Samueli Academy on Nov. 22. Samueli Academy is a public charter school which is based out of Santa Ana.
The Wolverines blew Samueli Academy in what is likely to be their biggest win of the entire season, with an impressive score of 74-28. This saw the Wolverines improve to 2-0, while Samueli Academy lost their unbeaten record, falling to 1-1 on the season.
Up next for Aliso Niguel was an unusual double header against Laguna Beach High School two times in three days. The final score for the game was rather low; however, the Wolverines prevailed and won comfortably by 24 points, winning 50-26.
However, later in the week the Laguna Beach Breakers sought redemption after the large loss. In the second game that they played against each other, the game was a thriller, with only three points separating the sides. Unfortunately, it was not Aliso’s day as they were defeated barely, with a final score of 43-40. This game was much more defensive and harder to score for the Wolverines.
One day later, the Wolverines had to recover and play against Foothill High School, based out of Tustin. The Wolverines managed to get the job done again, beating Foothill by four points. This was a pivotal game for the Wolverines to not fall into a losing streak. Instead, their record improved to 4-1, where Foothill fell to 1-2 on the season.
The game after they played against Ramona Covenant High School. Ramona Covenant is based out of Alhambra, and has lost every single game that they had played before they played the Wolverines. Aliso ended up taking care of business, improving their record once again as the outcome was 38-21.
Up next for the Wolverines was the St. Joseph Academy Crusaders out of San Marcos. St. Joseph proved to be a strong team with a winning record. Once again, the Wolverines fell on the wrong side of the scoreboard, losing by only three points once again.
The next game was a very important game for the Wolverines, as it was the girls’ Senior Night, with a ceremony held before the game in order to celebrate all of the seniors that are graduating this year.
Star player Reily Hefty (12) gave her thoughts on her Senior Night against Capo Valley High School: “Senior night was a blast, it was really fun to see the whole team come together and play their hearts out to win another game. We’ve lost a couple since then, but it’ll only be more motivation to get back on our win streak.”
As to Hefty’s analysis, the Wolverines did come out on top, winning 44-21.
Another Senior, Olivia Carbajal also gave her thoughts on her team: “I thought we played really well, and will be hoping to continue our good play for a playoff push later on in the season.”
The Wolverines still have plenty more games left in the season in order to make history as a team under a new coach.
