Aliso Niguel’s girl’s soccer team is back on the field to play this year’s season. They have returned in full force, working hard with high hopes for what’s to come this season.
Their year started with a successful Girls Summer Training Camp in July where athletes participated in various drills, exercises and activities. It was a fun experience, and the team strengthened their bond and skill sets for the upcoming season.
This was followed by open tryouts in late September and team costume challenges and activities in October. Once the team rosters were set, players wore fun costumes to celebrate Halloween festivities at the start of their soccer season.
When asked about her upcoming year, varsity soccer athlete Alaina Villa (12), stated that she was looking forward to “having pasta parties before game days and going to the boys games with all of my teammates.”
Another notable and valued player on the varsity team, Bayley Legget (12), stated, “I look forward to working together with my teammates and to having a successful season.”
Amid all this fun and anticipation, the team is currently working extremely hard to make this season a triumphant one. Villa shared, “We want to win League and go farther than we ever have in CIF.”
Legget shares Villa’s goal and also states, “I hope to have a fun season and to win League and CIF with my team.”
In order to reach these high goals, the team must come together to overcome some challenges or bumps in the road as Villa expressed, “We have a young team and some very talented opponents.”
The team’s first game of the year was on Dec. 3 and varsity players showed up to school in pink spirit wear that hyped up ANHS Wolverines for the first game. The players took a bus ride over to JSerra Catholic High School’s field and competed against them in an away game. However, the team lost to the JSerra Lions that day with a score of 2-1.
Despite this loss, the relentless team returned to practice to prepare for their second game against the Rosary Academy soccer team and to hopefully secure their first win.
In the midst of these long practices and hard work, Villa was asked to reflect on her senior year of soccer and stated, “I feel bittersweet and sad because I’ve been in the program for four years and have played with the same seniors for so many of those years.”
In addition, Legget also shared her thoughts on her last year of soccer at Aliso and stated: “I am sad to have a last year with my friends but grateful for all the memories.”
Nonetheless, Aliso Niguel’s bleachers continue to fill with family, friends and the boys soccer team as they all came to support Aliso’s beloved girls soccer team.
