Aliso Niguel Wolverines proudly watched their girls tennis team dominate CIF this year as two doubles teams are advancing to the CIF Championships. This is the first time in Aliso Niguel’s history that the girls tennis team sent off two doubles teams to the Championships.
The first doubles team consists of Jessica Chiu (12) and Trudy Shen (9). The second team, known as the Allegres sisters, consists of Camille Allegre (9) and Olivia Allegre (12).
Leading these tennis players is Coach Jeff Pinter with the help of Chiu, Olivia Allegre and Hannah Zidbeck (12) who are also team captains.
Chiu stated, “as captain, I’m proud of how close our team was and all the close matches that we were able to pull through and win.”
Team captain Allegre shares the same remarks as she also stated, “I’m most proud of the team environment the captains and I created because I feel like everyone on the team had a great experience and it led us to victory! Me and the other captains (Jessica Chiu and Hannah Zidbeck) made sure to plan a handful of team dinners and activities, which really brought our team together. This made cheering for each other during matches even more fun!”
On Dec. 5, the Allegre sisters lost in the CIF Semifinals and finished the 2024 season as one of the top four doubles teams in the entire Southern Section. Chiu and Shen lost in the round of 32, but with only 20 teams in the Championship, they finished the season as one of the top 20 teams in the Southern Section.
This girls tennis season has been a successful, but long one, and when reflecting on it, Chiu noted a fond day in which she won, “our second match against Beckman… It was special because it was the first time me and Trudy played together but we won all 3 matches.”
Additionally, Olivia’s fondest memory was also in a match against Beckman when the team needed one more match to win.
Allegre remarked, “Camille was the last match, and the whole team was cheering so loud for her. She was down two points, but fought hard to win that match, which actually led us to win the league title for the fifth year in a row.”
This beloved team has a long history of success and victory. They’ve won the title of League Champions every year since 2020, in addition to the title of CIF D1 Champions in 2023.
With another triumphant season in the books, Chiu shares that as a senior and as a captain, “I feel sad that I’ll never be able to play with my teammates again but happy that I have a successful tennis tournament to look back on”
Additionally, captain Allegre states, “I truly can’t believe it’s already my last year on the tennis team! I had a great 4 years on varsity, and I am so glad I was able to meet so many amazing girls… it’s going to be really weird to not play at the Aliso tennis courts next year, but I will definitely visit and support my teammates.”
With that, the 2024 girls tennis season has come to an end. As it wraps up, many senior players will graduate in May and will continue to play college tennis while Coach Pinter and returning players wait in anticipation for the 2025 season of girls tennis at Aliso.
