The Aliso Niguel High School Orchestra will go on its annual Knotts Berry Farm trip and perform on the Wagon Camp Theatre Stage from 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22.
The students of the orchestra will be performing two separate pieces from each individual fall concert program, combining a total of six pieces to play on Knott’s stage. Chamber Orchestra is set to be placed in the front on stage, with Advanced Orchestra in the middle and String Orchestra in the back.
Each orchestra will be playing their concert pieces separately, though the Chamber Orchestra is required to play alongside all groups, assigned all six pieces.
The six pieces ANHS’s Orchestra will be performing are “Dance of the Shadows” by Susan Day, “Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 by J.S. Bach Arr.” by Todd Parrish, “Melodia Perpetua” by John Dupuis, “Baile De Lila” by Chris Thomas, “Ghosts of Bohemia” by Joshua Reznjow and “A SuMerced, Don José” by Nubia Jaime Donjuan.
They will leave for their trip to Knotts Berry Farm on a charter bus at 9 a.m. and arrive back at school after their trip at around 11 p.m.
After their performance, students are allowed to separate into groups with at least three people in each group and even switch out groups throughout the day when exploring the amusement park’s rides together. Students end the day by reconvening as a class. They will leave the park at around 9:45 p.m.
Students signed up for this field trip in September, purchasing their tickets to join the fun at Knott’s Berry Farm through the Wolverine’s Marketplace online and the ASB Kiosk on campus through the cafeteria.
Saoirse Murray (11), a Chamber violinist, said, “I am looking forward to the short lines for the rides on this trip, and I think it is important to have fun in something like Orchestra. It is nice that you know more people in it the older you get, too.”
Going on a weekday, students and the teacher agree that the lines are usually not long, and everyone in the class as a whole is most excited to have a good time both during and after the performance. Seeing this trip is one of the most exciting for the Orchestra every year.
Mr. Chen, the Orchestra instructor and teacher, said, “I am looking forward to just seeing the kids have a good time, make memories, and just go on the trip itself. Usually, I join several groups throughout the day, moving from different group to group, and going on different rides with them.”
Chamber, Advanced, and Strings branches will unite for their six pieces and perform together rather than being separated for different concerts in the fall season. Ending fall and moving on to the winter concert next, the Knott’s Berry Farm concert is a meaningful conclusion for the class before the holidays and Thanksgiving Break.
