Girls soccer is about to start for the upcoming 2024-2025 campaign, and there are many factors that will help the Wolverines this year make the season worthwhile, fun and competitive.
Marco Spaccini will look to take his second full year with the reins as head coach of the girls program.
Last year, the program had a mixed form of results. They started off the preseason with a win last season against Beckman followed by a draw to Marina and two losses to Edison and Junipero Serra Catholic respectively.
This year, the girls are looking to improve upon a rather mediocre start to the season, and they have the right tools this year to do it. Here are some players to look out for this season.
One of the most notable players to keep an eye on when watching Aliso play this year is Alaina Villa (12). Villa will be wearing the number ten jersey this year while helping lead the Wolverines to victory. Last year, Alaina committed to play Division One soccer at Iowa State University. As a three-year varsity member, she will make sure to leave a lasting impact on the game being played when she is on the field.
Another member that will prove to be a pivotal asset for Aliso is right-back Emily Trapp (12). Trapp committed to the University of California Davis to play soccer and will look at strengthening the Wolverines’ back line this season. She has been a four-year varsity member, earning the accolade with senior Faith Huebner.
Aliso has a tough schedule this upcoming season. The first game of the season they travel to J-Serra, the team that they lost to last season, and then a week later host Edison at home. Following Edison, the girls play University High School in Irvine and then Woodrow Wilson High School on the same day as Independence High School in a tournament.
After the new year, the Wolverines will play one last preseason game against El Toro, and then head straight into South Coast League play.
Although the girls have been training hard, they have not forgotten to have fun as well while they are at it. For Halloween training, the team dressed up in their favorite costumes and participated in lots of fun activities to improve team bonding.
Senior Bayley Leggett was asked what she is most excited for in the upcoming season, with lots of games and memories ahead.
Leggett comments, “I am most excited to work together and win the league. I am also excited to have a fun, final senior year with my teammates.”
Senior Ava Wright also commented, “I am looking forward to playing with all my friends, we have a good chance to win the league this year!”
Team traditions are expected to come back, such as the Pasta night. Usually the night before every game, the team gathers at a player’s house which volunteers to host, and they will enjoy a meal together. This tradition is special in both the boys and girls programs, as it builds team chemistry as well as it creates memories that will last a lifetime.
