An unforgettable football season comes to the end for the Wolverines, with Aliso having played its last two league games of the season as well as a CIF thriller to finish the season out.
In Aliso’s final home game of the season, they played a weak Orange High School Panthers in a school Camo-out game. The Panthers came into the game with a 1-8 record. The Wolverines offense showed up, putting up 30 points against the Panthers.
Carter Vestermark (11) was on point for the Wolverines once again, completing 11 out of 14 total passes averaging 12.7 yards per throw. Jarrett Sabol (12) also proved to be a decisive factor for the Wolverines, with the running back picking up 23 carries and rushing for 170 yards. Senior Cameron Levine had the longest catch of the night for 40 yards, while senior Ryu Davis had five receptions going for 46 yards.
Aliso’s defense also played a pivotal part in the Wolverines’ success against Orange, only conceding 14 points. Corey Lewis (11) had a sack, while Levine ended the game with five solo tackles.
After a successful last home game win, the Wolverines traveled away to Fountain Valley for the final league game of the season, hoping for entry into CIF playoffs. The Fountain Valley Barons had not won a single game in league, and only won one non conference game. The Wolverines outscored the Barons 13-0 in the first quarter, however, Fountain Valley pushed their way back into the game through the second and third quarters to make it 13-10 in favor of the Wolverines heading into the fourth.
Although the Barons outscored the Wolverines 13-14 in the last quarter, Aliso still had enough to hold on by a tight two points to end the regular season on a high note sending the Wolverines to the first round of the playoffs.
For the first round of the CIF-SS Division Six playoffs the Wolverines drew the San Dimas Saints coming from the Valle Vista league. The Saints were very successful in the league this year, going four and one.
The Wolverines got close to the Saints toward the third quarter, however, the Saints pulled away ultimately taking the win and putting an end to the Wolverine’s season. It was a tough game for the Wolverines noting that Vestermark, the main quarterback, was absent, and freshman quarterback Aiden Sidenstecker had to step in for the Wolverines this game. Sidenstecker threw one touchdown and two interceptions in the loss to San Dimas.
San Dimas moves on to play against Dana Hill High School in the next round of CIF playoffs.
Nonetheless, this season was one to remember for the Wolverines. There were many great memories that the Wolverines had along the way.
Sabol, the running back, stated, “My favorite memory with the team this season was all the team dinners to get closer to my teammates. One of the biggest blessings was creating many friendships through this sport and I would not change it for anything.”
Senior Brandon Wong also added, “One of them will definitely be getting the golden buffalo back after winning against Laguna Hills.”
The Wolverines had an amazing end to the season and will be looking forward to the 2025-2026 season.
