On Nov. 5, at Fountain Valley High School, boys’ wrestling captain Garen Keshishian (12) won the Orange County All-Star championship. Competing against some of the top wrestlers in Orange County, he achieved a series of impressive victories to claim the championship title.
As a junior last year, Keshishian placed fourth in the Nogales Tournament, and his performance in CIF that year also highlighted his talents as he earned fifth place. This allowed him to represent Aliso Niguel as a master qualifier for nationals that same year.
Keshishian has been a dedicated member of the boys’ wrestling team since his freshman year. His consistent growth and competitive spirit have helped him make a name for himself in high school wrestling. Keshishian continues to make Aliso Niguel proud with his contributions to the team and his dedication as boys captain to help motivate his peers to do their best this school year.
Keshishian says, “It feels great to be the Orange County All-Star champion since we did not have many people representing Aliso Niguel at the All-Star last year, and it’s good to show out this year for the team. The training that helped me win was the mental training–really, it’s just you versus yourself out there on the mat. I think getting my mind right before the match was a big contributor, and physical training helped as well”
He adds, “My biggest wrestling inspiration would be Jordan Burroughs, who is an Olympic gold medalist and six-time world champion, and he got to where he was through his hard work, training and dedication. I would like to give thanks to my coaches for helping me get to where I am, and my team for helping me cut the weight and stay on track.”
Head Coach Colwell shares, “Garen has worked really hard, and he’s earned everything. He came in as a football player, never having wrestled as a freshman, and he has put in so much time. It’s great to see Garen get some payback for all the time and training he’s put in because he works incredibly hard. He is one of the most dedicated people we have in wrestling.”
