After a successful series of matches and a winning record, Aliso’s Girls Golf team concluded their season in the CIF Championship at Bear Valley Country Club, trailing Capistrano Valley High School in their last match.
The girls wrapped up a memorable season, showcasing their skill, determination and teamwork on the course. After months of preparation leading up to their season, the team competed in a series of challenging matches, including key tournaments that tested their abilities and perseverance.
The Wolverines earned the South Coast League Championship on Oct. 22 in San Clemente. Rhyan, Cenyao and Charlie moved on to day two of league finals, and Rhyan competed in CIF individuals. Unfortunately, she was not victorious, but she still had a remarkable match with 3 birdies in her last four holes, concluding in an impressive overall 78 for the day.
Led by Coach Biggs, the team saw impressive individual performances throughout the season. Rhyan Heine (9) played a pivotal role throughout the season and in CIF, earning her 2-over for the day and 7-over for the tournament. Notably, she caught up to the reigning South Coast MVP, Dana Hills’ senior Sophia Walstrom.
Reflecting on her first high school season, Heine said, “As the season has wrapped up, I can conclude that I feel a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment … I am so proud of my team and how we made it to the first round of CIF and placed top 10 at the second round.”
She attributed her success as a freshman to her practice and focus, and her goal for next season is to make it to the final round of CIF individuals and place in the top 10.
“This would be such an amazing thing for me to accomplish… I am going to train even harder and put in more time because good results don’t just happen, you have to earn it,” added Heine.
The team’s consistent effort was evident as they battled through tough new courses and strong competitors, finishing with a winning record over the season.
Carina Leo (12) said, “I’d say our team was challenged because we are a very young team; some of our best players had to face courses they’d never seen before, and despite the struggle, they took it in stride and often triumphed!”
The camaraderie among the players was a highlight, with teammates supporting each other both on and off the course. Despite the challenges, the team’s sportsmanship and positive attitude shone through at every event.
Leo added, “This season has been busy, but so full of appreciation, joy and success. This season of girls are determined, talented, hardworking and so funny! It was amazing to see everyone’s effort pay off and welcome in another generation of Aliso golfers. I hope they have as much fun every season as I did in this one.”
As the season comes to a close, the future looks bright for Aliso Girls Golf, with several rising stars eager to continue their golf careers. For the seniors, it’s the end of an era, but the legacy of their hard work and leadership will inspire the team for seasons to come.
