Aliso students now have a say about their thoughts on their lunch with the new feedback machine installed in the cafeteria. The machine called “Capo Cuisine” arrived recently and it lets the students who buy their lunch, rate their meal options on a scale of one to 10, with 10 being the best. This could also influence what is seen on future menus. This aims to make school lunches more enjoyable by giving students a voice on their lunch.
Many students are starting to notice this new addition and are curious to see what it does. It sits right next to the door in the cafeteria where students see it upon entering and exiting and they could then make their inputs about their school lunches.
The feedback machine, which is officially available during lunch only, has a simple touchscreen with faces with a big smile being the best. By using this simple and colorful screen, students can provide inputs that will be reviewed by the staff and district nutritionists. Many students appreciate the opportunity to share their opinions.
Megan Chong (10) says, “I was shocked to see it because I have never seen something like this before but I think it’s a great way for us to share our opinion on the food and to see better changes in the future.”
This machine makes lunch more enjoyable and it aims to create a personalized experience, allowing student preferences to be understood. With the chance to provide feedback, students can help shape a menu that is much more appealing yet also nutritious. The machine is becoming popular by the day with more people noticing it, which creates a shock since this has never been used before in the Aliso cafeteria.
Beyond preferences, the machine helps the current food options improve. Giving a low rating does not ensure there will be a new food menu but new ingredients or options could change.
Ms. Gu, one of our cafeteria ladies says, “This machine will help improve the school lunches to how the students like them.”
This machine has choices where the students pick what they like. The choices include the food choices, the taste of the food, and the quality with an additional option to add something else they like.
The same thing goes the other way around. If the student did not like the food they can personally type what they did not. Ms. Gu says that with this new technology, the students will help to create a good school environment with many more delicious options.
The feedback machine has already sparked conversations about how technology can improve the student experience beyond pure academics. With the chance to voice opinions on lunch, students feel more involved in shaping their school environment. The machine serves as a small but big step as Aliso continues to adapt based on the feedback which could also inspire other schools to do the same. It’s better to take advantage of this new opportunity to make our school even better every single day.
