The Los Angeles Dodgers won the Major League World Series in the fifth game by beating the New York Yankees on October 30. Students and staff all around Aliso’s campus have celebrated the victory by wearing jerseys and hats to show their support.
The Dodgers’ last World Series win was in 2020, against the Tampa Bay Rays with a shortened series due to Covid-19. This year, after winning the first three World Series games, the Dodgers lost 11-4 in game four. They came back in game five down 5-0 in the fifth inning, making their win historic, as it is the largest World Series come-back deficit. The game ended in a 7-6 victory to clinch the title.
The last time the Dodgers played the Yankees in a World Series game was in 1981, so this was even more anticipated by fans. This was their first full-season championship since 1988 and their eighth World Championship, making them fifth in the most championship wins.
Dodgers’ Freddie Freeman won the World Series MVP award for his stellar performance. Freeman batted .300 with four home runs and 12 RBIs in the series.
Los Angeles celebrates the win on Friday, Nov. 1 with a parade. It began in front of Los Angeles City Hall and followed a 1.2 mile route, bringing festivities and fun events for fans along the way.
Most students on Aliso Niguel’s campus had been greatly anticipating the games, were quick to acknowledge the win and have been relishing in the victory.
Susan Roche, a long-time Dodgers fan, says, “It has been a really tense series which made it so much fun to watch.”
Students and teachers alike have been engaging in conversations surrounding the games and what a Dodgers win meant for them.
Student Isabella Phelps (12) says, “I mean, finally the Dodgers got it done… I’m just happy they beat the Yankees.”
Many people have expressed discontent with the Dodgers’ record in critical games, making their near-perfect World Series run so much sweeter.
