The College and Career Center at Aliso Niguel High School is a place for resources, guidance, and support to help students plan for their futures. Located in Room 500 the room offers a welcoming space where students can explore college pathways, career options, and much more.
For many students, navigating the college and career landscape can feel overwhelming, especially for seniors. That’s why Mrs. Nguyen, the college and career counselor, offers one-on-one appointments to provide personalized support. Students can stop by the center to schedule a meeting or simply scan the code on the school’s website.
The College and Career Center is more than just an informational stop. It’s a place where students can receive advice about post-high school options, and Aliso Niguel is fortunate to have this special room on campus.
Mrs, Nguyen says, “This room is welcome for all students, the purpose of it is to help students prepare for their future. Everyone should have a plan after high school. As college counselors, all we want is the best for students here on campus. We have college visits almost every day at lunch. Wolverine+ is currently open for seniors right now since it’s college application season, however, next semester Wolverine+ will be open to all grade levels.”
The purpose of college visits is for students to get out of their comfort zone and explore more colleges. There’s a vast variety of colleges to choose from, so Ms. Nguyen suggests that students keep their options open, rather than sticking to one option.
For students interested in pursuing higher education, the career center offers support at every step of the college application process. Mrs. Nguyen and her team help with college list-building, essay writing, and navigating the complexities of college admissions. Various workshops are also held covering critical topics, such as completing the FAFSA for financial aid, creating a competitive college resume and managing deadlines for both college and scholarship applications.
The center also offers extensive resources on career exploration. Through the center, students can take advantage and learn about programs, internships and job shadowing opportunities that allow them to experience their fields of interest firsthand. The large amount of options to choose from provides students insight into the skills, training and education required for various careers depending on their interests.
Beyond resources and support, the center is a place where students are encouraged to plan smart. It is not recommended to wait last minute to plan your future. Avoid the stress by planning ahead of time. It is never too early to start the overwhelming process of planning your path for college.
By helping students connect their strengths and interests with real-world opportunities, the career center plays an essential role in shaping a successful journey after high school for Aliso Niguel students.
Emily Quintilla (10) says, “I think it’s nice that students have the option to prepare for college since my parents never had the same opportunities we did.”
Overall, the Career Center has received great feedback from students around campus. Students have gone regularly to use the resources and create their college planning process early to avoid stress.
Whether you are a freshman starting to think about the future or a senior preparing for college applications, the College and Career Center is here for you. Visit the center to take advantage of all the resources available and start building a plan for success. With the right guidance, every Wolverine can step into the future with confidence, prepared to make a difference in society.
