This month’s inter-club council meeting for club presidents took place on Nov. 8 during Wolverine Plus in the Library. This meeting mainly focused on reminding clubs of their requirements to stay eligible and how handling funds works.
All clubs are running under the associated student body of Aliso Niguel, and are therefore facilitated and monitored by them. This time, Ella Pitet (12) the clubs committee, Viana Najafi (11) the clubs commissioner and Ms. Ross the activities director of ASB all presented to the presidents.
The main focus of this meeting was to remind clubs of how to responsibly and legally manage the finances for their clubs. Clubs need to work with Ms. Sue Young, the activities clerk, for finances as she overlooks everything financially related.
Ms. Ross said, “[most clubs] utilize funds to buy things, we want to make sure that all our club presidents and our advisors are aware of the financial restrictions [of] how we spend money, and those procedures.”
For many clubs, spending money is necessary in order to accomplish what they want to do, which is why it is important for presidents to understand how the process of generating money or getting reimbursed works in order to avoid trouble.
All clubs who spend money have an account under ASB to hold their funds, and that money can be raised through fundraisers and donations that have been approved by ASB. Later on, the club can spend it if they fill out a purchase order form, which allows the money spent by the club to be reimbursed from their account. These documents and forms can all be found on the Aliso Niguel High School website.
The meeting also discussed other topics such as a new opportunity to promote one’s club. The National Honors Society is offering an opportunity to give a spotlight to a club if they fill out a form that was given out to presidents via a QR code. This is a wonderful way for clubs to partner with NHS members who are always looking for new opportunities to be involved with the school and fill out volunteer hours.
The meeting also discussed a new system that will likely be implemented next semester, in which clubs will need to turn in a calendar of what they plan into ASB. This will be a monthly submission that comes from presidents, and if they’d like, they can go back and change it through a request.
Najafi said, “[it will] help other students on campus that don’t have access to the club presidents or the executive council, directly, to find a way to join the meetings and be a part of the club.”
The purpose of an I.C.C. meeting is to have clubs stay updated on things they need to know in order to successfully run their club. They also explain future events that will be taking place that clubs are required to participate in such as club rush and the multicultural fair. These meetings are important to have as they ensure that clubs are being run responsibly and correctly.
