As many anticipate the last day of October, students at Aliso Niguel High School, with the help and assurance of the Association Student Body, plan an exciting Halloween for all to enjoy on campus. Thanks to the new principal, Dr. Mahindrakar, the school has heavily encouraged everyone to get in their spooktacular spirit this year.
This year, for the first time in many years at ANHS, students were encouraged to dress up at school, alongside a motivation to do so. If students attended in their Halloween costumes, they were given the opportunity to stop by the ASB room during lunch to pick up candy.
This new approach to uplifting the festive spirit at Aliso Niguel is very different in comparison to previous years. On the school’s intercom, student body members made it clear they wanted students to be involved, announcing the Halloween Costume guidelines. Alongside this, an Instagram post was made on the school’s official account on Oct. 29 with costume guidelines, exclaiming, “Happy Tuesday Aliso! This Thursday is our annual Halloween dress-up day, where students & staff are welcome to wear their Halloween costumes!”
Select teachers also heavily decorated their classrooms, putting different color lights around the room, hanging up ghosts and ghouls on the walls and ceiling, and even going as far as passing candy out to their students on Oct. 31, making the holiday and event inclusive and fun for everyone, no matter costume or not.
ASB members worked hard to help the school make the day feel special, creating a both positive and exciting atmosphere. In support of helping the students get involved in their various costumes, teachers also dressed up, assigning outfits organized by their hallways and subjects. All those working in both the offices and in attendance dressed based on the film Top Gun, an idea from Dr. Mahindrakar himself. In comparison, the math hallway teachers dressed all as Waldo from the stories of Where’s Waldo?
Overall, the celebration of Halloween at ANHS was a success for the school and created very memorable moments for both staff and students alike. Students enjoyed showing off their different costumes together and making new friends. It’s apparent that for the years to come, the staff will continue to make Halloween an enjoyable tradition for everyone to look forward to!
