Aliso Niguel’s Girls Volleyball team has officially concluded their 2024 season. The team made several accomplishments this year, securing second place in the South Coast League and qualifying for CIF playoffs.
They ended the League with an overall record of five wins and three losses. The girls defeated noteworthy teams like San Clemente and Trabuco Hills High School. However, their most notable victory was on Oct. 15, when they played against Dana Hills High School. In this away game, the team managed a 3-0 victory.
The team has had a lot to celebrate as Head Coach Danet led them to many triumphs this year. The team rejoiced together as they held their 2024 Girls Volleyball Banquet on Oct. 20 where the players dressed up and commemorated their season so far.
Then the team got back to the courts after all this enjoyment to practice hard and prepare for what was to come: CIF playoffs. After a lot of hard work and preparation, the team officially began their first round of CIF on Oct. 23.
This was a highly anticipated home game for family and friends. Students packed the Den to show up and show out in teal attire. With their love and support, along with hard work and skill, the girls volleyball team defeated Sunny Hills High School with a final score of 3-0.
With this victory now secured in the books, the team went on to CIF round two where they went up against the number one seed: Saugus High School. Unfortunately for the Wolverines, this was the last game of the 2024 season. In this home match on Oct. 26, the players lost with a final score of 3-0.
With that game, the 2024 volleyball season came to an end. Team captain, Macey Smith (12), who also plays as the team’s libero stated, “This season went pretty good… I’m super sad for my time to be ending at ANHS because I have such good memories with the volleyball team.”
Another valuable team member, Nadia Taraman (12), when reflecting upon her season and her time playing volleyball at Aliso, stated, “I’m so sad it’s over with and it went by so quickly. It’s crazy how it’s going to be the last time playing with these girls I’ve known since my freshman year.”
When asked about her accomplishments, Taraman also noted, “I’m so proud of how far I’ve made it and all the friends I’ve made over the years because of volleyball.”
As the seniors on the team graduate, many of them will continue to play volleyball at the collegiate level. In the meanwhile, Aliso’s volleyball coaches are preparing for the 2025 season.
With a great history of success by earning the titles of League Champions, CIF Champions and CIF Finalists, the Wolverines are eager to support and follow the team no matter what challenges they will face down the road.
