Blooket and Kahoot are among the most popular interactive learning games in classrooms that engage students through fun games and quizzes. Both programs are created to help students study in a fun and exciting way as a class.
When asked which one they prefer, most students enjoy Blooket more.
Roy Bronola (10) says, “Blooket beats out Kahoot by far nowadays. Kahoot can’t match the same hype as Blooket now…Kahoot hasn’t evolved in a while so it feels really boring sometimes.”
Ellen Diaz (10) says, “I’d say I prefer Blooket. There’s like different versions of it so that’s fun.”
Maya Jelveh (9) says, “I prefer Blooket cause there are different games and you can get more competitive with it while Kahoot is only based on how quickly you click.”
Victoria Vasquez (9) says, “Blooket has games so it keeps you entertained and it makes you want to answer more questions while Kahoot you don’t get anything out of it.”
Many students find the different game modes of Blooket to be the selling point, as they keep them entertained and encourage them to solve the questions correctly.
Another feature of Blooket is the token system. It allows students to earn tokens by playing Blooket. This motivates students to do well on the Blookets, earning more tokens the higher they place.
These tokens can be spent on the Blooket market, to buy Blooks. Blooks are skins that can be worn during the game, have rarity ratings and are bought through blind bags. Some are seasonal, and others are in the market year-round.
Ella D’lima (10) says, “The candy corn guy is adorable…I love collecting Blooks.” D’lima is referring to the Candy Corn Blook, released in Oct. as part of the Spooky pack.
Kahoot also released skins not too long ago that students can use during Kahoot games. However, the Kahoot ones can be worn by anyone, and are not bought by tokens. There aren’t as many options as Blooket either, and aren’t as visually appealing.
Vasquez mentions, “The little Blooks look really cute and they encourage me to do well in Blooket games and buy more, and the Kahoot ones do not.”
While just an additional feature Blooket has, it really makes a difference in students’ appeal to the game. However, which program helps students study better, varies.
When asked if Blooket helps her study better, Yassi Keyhani says, “Well not really, the questions lowkey repeat.”
With most Blooket game modes being very fast-paced, the questions will likely repeat. This could be negative or positive, it truly depends on the student.
Diaz says, “Blooket gives you the right answer and then later repeats the questions again so it’s like an opportunity to try again.”
Jelveh says “Blooket helps me learn better because sometimes the same questions come multiple times so you memorize the answer to not get it wrong when it comes up again. With Kahoot, you only get one chance so by the end you will probably forget some stuff.”
Mrs. Mclellan, a Spanish teacher at Aliso, often incorporates interactive learning games in her teaching. I get better feedback from Kahoot, but Blooket has more options, so it’s better for a quick review, whereas I’ll use Kahoot as a quick assessment, like ‘did we learn this or did we not?’”
While Blooket may win in popularity among students, the choice between Blooket and Kahoot on which one helps students learn better ultimately depends on each student’s individual learning style.
