Lens Crew is a brand-new club at Aliso Niguel High School that focuses on taking photos and videos at different sports games.
The club was founded by Jayden Tang (10) and Cody Chao (10) who are co-presidents. Zack Risse (10) is their vice president, Xiefei Lai (10) is their treasurer and Abigail Hwang (10) is their secretary.
Last year, Chao began taking photos and videos at sports games, like volleyball. He sent them to the team, and they posted his pictures on their Instagram. This inspired Chao to create the club, and Tang agreed to help him.
Tang said, “I’m a swimmer and almost no one knows about swimming and I’m sure no one knows about the surf team or the golf team or the basketball team. I just wanted to promote sports with not a lot of popularity.”
Both Chao and Tang collaborated to bring this club to life. They assign roles to club members like taking photos and videos, as well as photo and video editing.
Depending on the sport, they send a certain number of club members to take photos and videos of the game. Afterward, students send the photos/videos they took on the club’s Whatsapp, managed by Tang.
Tang sorts out the bad photos/videos from the good ones, and then club members can edit them and send the finished photos and videos through their WhatsApp.
Where Tang and Chao post them varies, as they have had some issues collaborating with ASB. For the Homecoming Football game on Oct. 18, they were originally supposed to send eight members on the field with free admission. However, ASB later changed that to 4 people, without free admission to the game.
Chao says, “It was a challenge getting ASB to work with us…I wouldn’t expect it to work perfectly first try, after all, it’s our first year.”
Tang adds, “We are hoping to work out the kinks this year and be off to a great start next year.”
As of right now, they are planning to send the photos and videos they take to the different sports to post on their accounts.
Their meetings are held every other Tuesday in Room 302, with Mrs. Anderson as their club advisor. She has known both Chao and Tang since 8th grade and feels lucky to be their advisor.
Mrs. Anderson says, “They want to capture memories for their peers and put it out there for everyone to enjoy and I think that that’s such a great idea and something that everyone can get something out of.”
