As we get closer to the second semester of the school year, the Aliso spring sports are hosting tryouts for the upcoming season. The Aliso Niguel High School offers a wide variety of sports for the spring season including both girls’ and boys’ lacrosse, girls’ beach volleyball, girls’ swim and track as well as boys’ swim, indoor volleyball, baseball and tennis.
The season will start at the beginning of the second semester when players come back from winter break and all sports will have their tryouts before the end of the first semester.
The majority of the spring sports at Aliso are cut sports and in order to make the team, trying out is mandatory unless it is a no-cut sport. All athletes are obligated to be physically cleared in order to try out for a team.
Boys Swim will have their tryouts on Tues, Nov 19 at 3:30 p.m. at the ANHS pool. The tryouts will require all athletes to swim a timed 200 Free, 100 Free, and 50 of each stroke.
Girls lacrosse consists of three teams of Junior Varsity A, Junior Varsity B and Varsity and it is coached by Bob Mazuel. The tryouts for the team took place last month on Oct 15 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the stadium and the roster of all three teams is now out for all athletes who tried out.
Boys lacrosse has two teams of Junior Varsity and Varsity, coached by Zachary Henderson. The team’s tryouts occurred last week on Nov. 4 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and on Nov. 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the stadium.
The girls swim team has Open, Frosh/Soph, JV and Varsity teams under the coaching of Ryan Cox. The tryouts took place on Oct. 12, from 7 to 9 a.m. at the ANHS pool.
The Aliso Niguel co-ed track team consists of two teams of Frosh/Soph and Varsity with the coaching of Patricia Lusar and Coach Werner. The tryouts for sprints and jumps took place on Monday, Nov. 4 from 3:30 to 5:15 p.m. at the stadium. The tryouts for distance and field events took place on Thursday, Nov. 7 from 3:30 to 5:15 p.m.
The Aliso Niguel Boys Volleyball team tryouts will be held on Nov. 18 from 7 to 9 p.m. for returning players and on Dec. 5 from 4 to 6 p.m. for new players in the main gym. Those interested are able to register for tryouts on the Aliso Boys Volleyball website.
The Aliso Boys Tennis team’s tryouts will take place on Dec. 9 to 13 and the times are to be determined. All tryouts will be held at the ANHS tennis courts and attendance is mandatory in order to make the team.
Though most of the Aliso teams have sent out their tryouts information, few teams are yet to publicize the dates and they still are to be determined.
