With more than 75 student sections in Orange County, the Aliso Niguel Den managed to earn the most points for OCSS and take the lead this football season.
The Orange County Student Section (OCSS) is a well-known program that holds weekly competitions for the best school spirit during different sports seasons.
OCSS rivalries have become a big part of high school sports culture and students take pride in competing for their schools.
The winners of every week are voted through the OCSS Instagram polls and the Den won with an eight-week win streak and earned 418 points by the end of week nine as a result.
ASB, the Associated Student Body has a great role in ensuring the themes of the football games and the unity of students on Friday nights.
ASB member, Mia Harris (10) shared, “It’s really awesome that we got the chance to win so many times because it really shows what Aliso can do and the potential it has. I love being able to work with ASB to help support the themes and school spirit.”
The Friday night football games of each week have a different theme for students and guests, even if the game is away. ASB works extremely well to ensure that the Den displays the theme well, using posters and twisty balloons.
The themes of the Aliso football games this season have been blackout, teal out, cookout, beach out, white out, pink out, camouflage and country. The Aliso students have made creative choices in outfits that contribute to the themes.
Lily Hoang (10), a student at ANHS said, “I think that Aliso has been so successful in OCSS because we are always so on point with the themes at the games. I love watching the crowd and am always rooting for Aliso’s win every week.”
Halfway through the football games, ASB ensures to make a video or a picture of the students to post for the OCSS council, and students vote on the winning school.
Aliso has managed to show off an impressive student section every week and has gotten the most votes out of the other schools. This is due to the fact that Aliso students have participated by dressing up for each theme.
Another leading factor in Aliso’s success in the weekly competitions is the Wolverines’ unity in voting on the Instagram polls every week. The OCSS Instagram asks students to vote for their own school only and ANHS has gotten the most votes compared to other schools every week.
Though the football season has passed, Aliso is still halfway through the winter season and will continue with the Spring season when we are back from Winter break. This leaves Aliso with a long road ahead and more opportunities to win other OCSS competitions.
