Orange County Student Section (OCSS) is an organization that focuses on the “Battle of OC” which challenges students to partake in their school’s student section and school spirit.
With OCSS, schools all around Orange County compete to obtain the most points and win “Student Section of the Season” and eventually “Student Section of the Year”.
Schools can earn points in three ways: through Instagram polls (People’s Choice), being chosen by OCSS Staff (Team Choice) or by winning the challenge of the week.
The OCSS organization is most active on their social media accounts including Instagram, Twitter, Tiktok, and Youtube. The accounts regularly post upcoming match-ups, scores, highlights on student sections and teams, and, of course, each week’s section winners
During this football season, Aliso has dominated OCSS and has been awarded seven “People’s Choice” wins for the best student section of the week.
The people’s choice award is chosen by the student’s themselves by voting on Instagram polls each weekend. They are able vote in a series of elimination rounds until a final round determines the winner and is announced on social media.
The Team Choice Student Section of the week is selected by OC Student Section’s executive board based on the school’s improvement, display of school spirit and if they aren’t receiving enough recognition in their efforts.
ASB contributes greatly to the student sections’ liveliness, and spends the majority of football games ensuring all students are having a good time and having school spirit.
Junior, Ansh Sharma (11), shares, “The best part about winning OCSS all these times is that it shows how our school spirit is really on top, especially since we’re competing against dozens of other high schools across the county and we’re coming out on top by a large margin. It’s just really cool to see that and think ‘wow i helped make that happen.’”
Aliso has been exceeding the school spirit when it comes to the student section. With students planning out elaborate outfits to crowds of hundreds coming to support our school, the spirit never dies.
Aliso has experimented with many different themes this year, and are beloved by many students.
Rijul Kashyap, a junior on ASB shares, “I really loved pink out. It allowed for the student section and football team to support a great cause. It’s so fun having a crazy student section that supports more than just ourselves.”
ASB is a majoring factor to Aliso’s wins for OCSS. With organizing all the themes months in advance and spending the week marketing each game, ASB truly is a determining factor of all the wins.
This year themes have included: Black out, Teal out, Cookout, Beach out, White out, Pink out, camouflage and our homecoming game, Country out.
With school spirit being at its highest in years, to all students coming together to celebrate each other, OCSS has been a great success.
Although football season is nearing to the end, students’ memories from these football games are endless. ASB has helped immensely with our school spirit and dedication to continuous wins with OCSS.
