This year, one new club harmonizes its way into popularity: Piano Club. Yes, ANHS does have many music programs such as orchestra, choir and band, but the Piano Club is different.
It offers students a more personalized focus on piano and a deeper musical experience. The Piano Club hopes to be a safe and intimate community where students can share their passion for piano, uniting under the love for music.
The Piano Club is not just for advanced pianists; it is a space for students of all skill levels to gather.
Yas Eftekhari (10) says, “Beginners who are learning their first notes or advanced players who have been playing for years are all welcome.”
Eftekhari adds that this club is not a “…competition but a safe community where students can teach and collaborate with each other and connect through playing the piano.”
She hopes that club members will help each other to improve with a safe, fun community.
The club will meet in room 301 and in the choir room on Wednesdays. During meetings, the club hopes to have a performer showcase their skills on the piano. Additionally, the club founders will help teach and support students with their piano skills.
Co-founder Camille Lawrence (10), says that they wish to host “… recitals and performances throughout the year whether that be during lunch meetings or out of school at a senior center.”
Regardless of skill level, the hope is that everyone will be eager to perform to showcase their progress and express their love of music through the piano.
Playing in front of people can also help provide valuable confidence-building which is a valuable skill needed in life. Not only is this club about piano, but it is also about developing life skills needed to help students beyond the walls and keys of the club.
Even playing a couple of notes during meetings can generate a fun piano-playing experience and students can even collaborate to play songs together, emphasizing the safe, creative environment this club creates.
The Piano Club is also a great place to expand on creativity. There is no set restriction on what you have to play or do; instead, students are free to choose what they want to play.
Regardless of genres such as classical, jazz or pop songs, Yas says that she will “…help, support, and teach members so that they can improve,” allowing for imagination and collaboration to be spread creating a safe community of piano players.
The Piano Club is much more than a place to play piano. It is a safe community where students can share their passion for piano or develop a future passion. Fun meetings help relieve academic pressure and enjoy their love for the piano with others who share the same values.
Not only will students learn to play the piano, but they can create friendships, develop creativity and confidence, and create memories that everyone will remember.
