On Oct. 11, 2024, the Aliso Niguel High School’s Choir team performed their “Shades of Autumn” concert at Mission Lutheran Church at 7:30 p.m.
The goal of the ‘Shades of Autumn’ concert was to complete their fall semester concert and begin the year off. This concert was in preparation for more concerts in the future.
The choir teacher at ANHS, Mr. Harney, has been preparing his students for this concert since the first week of school. They have worked really hard to make the first concert of the year a great one. They have spent hours memorizing songs and trying to hit the perfect notes to impress their audience.
Mr. Harney says, “The fall concert has several goals, one of them is to get one big performance under our belts to start the process of music learning early in the year… and learn to only sing from memory.”
The first of four groups, called the Madrigals, kicked off the beginning of the concert. They began with the national anthem and sang a total of six songs.
The second group to take the stage is the Concert Choir. They composed songs that were beautifully sung.
The final group to go was Bella Cantore, which is an all girls group. They harmonized all together and sang emotional pieces like “Miniature of Kin” by Julie Gardner Bray.
Sammy Kirchner, Vice President of the Bella Cantore shares, “I have been in the Choir program for four years now and every year we have been working hard to make each concert amazing.”
In the end, all the groups came together and continued to sing more songs.
Throughout the concert, five students have worked extremely hard to get solos in this semester’s concert. However, in this concert it was not about solos, it was about bringing students together to harmonize and work as a group.
Each student has dedicated an enormous amount of time and effort into this concert and have been working hard since the first week of school. Many students have been working alongside Mr. Harney for years now and have continued to put everything they have into their voices and music.
The choir program has two upcoming performances this December. The next concert will be Dec. 10 in the STEM building at 3:30 p.m. after school. It will include drinks and is free to students and staff. Finally, their winter concert will be taking place Dec. 13.
